I agree. The Khardova Deck principle is brilliant!

I was trying to create my own Khardova Deck last night.
For those who already read the article, I found that, instead of spraying half of front and half of back, you can spay just the front and achieve the same effect. This way, besides the benefit of easier to construct the deck, it is easier to handle, too. You don't need to worry about the orientation of cards or the way you deal/turn cards at all. |

I don't usually pay attention to the tricks in Genii and Magic magazine (just the articles, interviews, and reviews) but something about this column got my attention. The more I read the more curious I became.
The effect was ... WOW! So for the first time ever I will attempt to create my own rough/smooth deck today. To quote MagiGuy ... "Brilliant"

There is an error in the instructions. Here is the correction from Jim, which will also appear in our June issue:
Correction: In the May 2010 issue, my instructions for the Khardova Deck missed a step. Just before illustration 3, before the face-down card is dealt on the pile, the card must be revolved 180-degrees. My way of doing this is to put the deck down on the table, giving it a quarter turn (so it is positioned right-to-left) as you do so. Pause here, pointing out how you've been stopped at this point. As you pick up the card to place it face-down, it is given another quarter turn. Then pick up the deck and resume the procedure. Unfortunately, in translating my notes, I omitted this step, but it will be obvious to those who make up the routine. Steve Ziegelman pointed out the error. I thank him and apologize to readers. |

I figured out this error myself, but it still does not seem to solve the problem of the face down card being revealed in the spread at the end of the trick.
Anyone else have this problem? |

Agree with Alee as posted above. No need to spray just half of each side. If you spray the entire face of the cards, and leave the backs alone, it works much better.

I still can't get over last month's column! I can't believe he added a menu effect of that caliber!

I didn't know til January that Conjuring was back in Genii Magazine. I used to buy Magic Magazine mainly because of Jim Steinmeyer column but now I think I'm gonna switch to Genii. Jim Steinemeyer is one of my favorite inspiration in magic (even if I don't perform a trick of his creation right now). I hope he gonna release a Conjuring vol 2 one day. Your right about the menu effect in march issue. It is pretty great a and I really consider to put it in my performance.

Is the Steinmeyer column still running?

Yes, it runs every other month. There's an installment in the August issue. The next will be in October. Occasionally Jim skips a column because of another project (he's deep into writing a book at the moment), but "Conjuring" has been running in Genii every other month for several years now.
