Hello fellow magicians!
Im creating an act for participating in the norwegian championship of magic this year. I just moved to a new place and therefore, I haven't practiced magic for ages, But now I got the glow back and also a dove (soon to be two) He/She's doing great and almost as of instinct does the flyback. In my act I'll do different Michael Jackson dance moves. I plan that at the end of the act. I'll use a take apart dove vanish and change the bird into a black fedora filled with confetti. (Michael used a fedora, and yes I'm inspired by him, God bless him) My vision is to empty the confetti from the hat over my waiting hand and as the confetti passes a bird cage will appear. My question is: Is there ANY good cages out there somewhere that's not Harakhan? I don't want the bird to be real as the cage is going through some handling during the steal and so on that's not ideal for my little feathery friend. The cage could be round or squere or what ever. If I had the money I would buy the Harakhan, but I'm not exactly the richest 15 years old in the world. Oh and I'd love comments to my idea. Thanks. |

I would advise you drop the Michael Jackson copy thing. It will not gain you any points in a contest. Find your own character.
Puzzling question, you say you have a dove to appear on your hand while confetti is poured on the same hand. Then you ask about an appearing cage and fake bird. I do not understand the purpose of the cage question. Is this and additional effect you are thinking of? Or is the bird on the hand to be in a cage? All appearing bird cages are expensive, as it takes a lot of work to make all the movable parts. Interesing quote, after ages you have renewed interest in magic at the old age of 15. Nest year it is girls, and the magic will be shelved again. At the old age of 62 I find that statement funny. |

He didn't say he produced a dove and a cage. If I understand, he will change his dove into a confetti filled fedora using a take apart box. I'm not sure how that will work but it's his idea. Then as he pours the confetti out of the hat over his hand, a cage with "fake" dove will appear. I'm thinking body load for the cage but he'll need a lot of confetti for cover.
Magiciko, Bill is correct. A good cage is expensive. I'm not sure what your budget is but even a used cage can run several hundreds of dollars. I wouldn't worry about getting a harakan cage. They are next to imipossible to find now.

Thank you both!
I did not mean that I had shelved magic. I've just had a lot to do lately My love for magic has always been at the same level. Yes I'll drop the Jackson image. If you want I can post a video of the act when it's done. |

As I remember that confette in had and cage production is on YouTube by an oriental magician. He uses the card fans to top hat and then produces a second top hat with a card castle loaded and then a bird cage production. The sequence is a little different but basically the same thing.
Another magician on YouTube makes it seem the cage is coming from the hat, but it of course is not. His lighting speed is the his secret. I would suggest you concentrate on selling yourself to the audience. Your act seems kind of short, as most contest wants 8 minutes, anyway that is how it use to be in magic contests. |

I was deeply inspired by Michael also, but the world doesn't need another Michael Jackson, what they do need is an original you.
Let Michaels magic inspire you to create magic of your own. I still practice to Michaels music, he was more magical in terms of his performance intensity and power, then any magician I have come to witness. Use the fedora, its a great hat, just don't connect it to Michael, if you have not established yourself as an individual, when your audience perceives you are immitating another, your mystery will be absolutely lost, you will be predictable and impotent, boring. If you desire to sell yourself as a Michael Jackson impersonating magician, there would be a market for you, but in relation to your own destiny, it seems rather indifferent to waft within anothers shadow, another who is no longer with us. Be yourself with every fiber of your being, The world will appluad your courage for it. |

Thank you!
I just started dancing in addition to magic and in a few weeks time I'll have a complete Billy jean outfit that I got for free (worth 565 dollars) The outfit includes the fedora. I'll keep Michael Jackson impersonator dancing and MY magic strictly separated. I want an original and proffesional act so badly but I hope that I still can be dancing at talent and school shows. Thank you. Oh and my dove keeps getting better at flybacks Here is a presentation idea I got. I produce a spray bottle that says" the colour of life" on it using a standard dove steal and spray it (water inside) in the air. I pretend to catch some of the "paint" and produce my bird coloured blue with a sleeve toss. since my dove is not white I'm also thinking of maybe using my doves natural colours (brown and white) to create an original effect that is NOT based on the standard white dove. Maybe using flowers or something (not silks or manmade objects) to make the whole effect look like its taken from the nature it self. What do you think? Hope this makes sense. |

It sounds like you only have one dove. I hope you are not going to try and color the brown and white (this is called a pied dove, by the way) blue. It won't work.

Ok. Thank you. I'll avoid that.
My dove just gets better and better at the flyback now. I'll get another dove in a matter of days. I'm really looking forward to it Thanks for all your help guys! I'll post a video of my act when it's done if it's ok with you. Posted: Apr 11, 2010 6:04pm Does anyone know which appearing cage mr Andrely is using at 1.30 in this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhK0T2AHKT8 By the way. Hello Magiciko
This cage was fabricated by an Argentine who has already died a long time. His name was Pidall. Unfortunately these cages are no longer manufactured. The UGM in Japan came to make some similar. Sorry for my bad english Best Regards Andrély |

If you explain your idea to Thomas Clark, he can probably build it for you in a custom manner.
