Annemann's Card Magic is outstanding. There's gold in there for the observant student.

Especially if you're new to this wonderful art, consider getting just the first volume of Card College now. It covers quite a few basic moves in a very accessible manner. You can always buy other volumes later.

I would disagree that someone brand new to the art should buy Card College right away. I think you would be wiser to buy a less expensive book, such as this Anneman book or the Fulves "Self-Working" series in paperback, until you are sure that card magic is something you even want to pursue! Learn a few tricks, learn how to present them and then perform them. Then if you decide you don't like card magic, you're only out $5 instead of $40. A lot of people start out with cards but then decide to go into an entirely different area of magic and never do cards again!
