Wasn't sure the best place to post this, but as it uses a modified coin, I thought here might be good....

Steve Dusheck's dvd contains neat effect called "Confounding Coffer". I am putting it together, but am having diffuculty finding a suitable ring box.

Google hasn't to this point hasn't pointed me to a brick and mortar store that I recognize, so I was wondering where a good brick and mortar store might be my best bet for finding clear plastic/lucite/acrylic ring boxes?

As there is a certain size requirement for the box - and that requirement (a measurement) can be affected by the thickness of the plastic as well as its outside measurement, it is best to check them out in person.

Been to 2 malls and a number of dollar stores, Claires, jewelry stores, but no luck.
Thinking about visiting Sam Moon or World Market, but hoping someone can say, "I found them at XYZ".

(Steve isn't producing the effect anymore, btw).

Thanks -

Might be able to help... can you show me an example of a ring box that you might be looking for? Not sure I understand...
Looking for a coin?
A coin holder or accessory?

Similar to this (photo is in upper right corner). Doesn't have to be *exactly* like this, but similar.

Loren, I'll PM the specifics for the requirement.

Round these parts, you can find those boxes at places called "GBC". The one nearest to me is inside the local Sears. They sell packing materials, party supplies, and those little velvet pouches that magic stuff comes in.

EDIT: oops, sorry, I found their website, and they only seem to be here in Hawaii--go to gbchawaii.com

Found some suitable boxes.

Now that the box is done, I turned my attention to the gimmick - if I could only learn to solder! Smile

Actually, through some searching here on the Café, I learned that with the equipment I have, trying to solder a coin and a n*** together is a waste of time. Well, I did get 1 set to hold out of 10+ tries. Want to make a couple of more gimmicks, so it looks as if JB Weld is my best bet for the rest. Got a couple of nice blisters, too!

Also looking to buy one of Steve Dusheck's originals. Be nice to have.

Chance here at the Café had the perfect boxes. I just received them, and made my first Coffer. Just perfect for the effect.

Thanks, Chance!

These worked for me -- the smaller one was perfect for using a quarter. Going to experiment with using a half dollar in the larger one.

Note: The 1st one (larger) is for earrings/necklaces so do NOT include a foam insert - just a "velvet covered" bit of cardboard.
The 2nd ones (smaller) DO have foam inserts... I ended up using two in the coffer I made to sufficiently fill the box.
