Hi Guys and Gals,
Can anyone recommend any tables? I'm looking for something both fun and practical, able to fold up, but looks good too. http://shop.magicdove.com/images/1156873579178-800981905.gif What do you think of this? Also how about trunks, anyone show me to some places with some trunks possibly? |

Don't think you'll find anything better then the Lefler table at about four hundred dollars. If you're looking for something with a bunny or dragon painted on the front, this is not the table for you. The Lefler table is non discrete and functional. The table does not fold, but turns into something of a suitcase to store your props and travels nicely.

There are many things to consider. Will you work off of the surface? Do you need a height adjustable table? Is portability and rapid setup a concern? Do you want to be able to access props without ducking behind a large table? Do you want the props hidden until you use them? What kind of budget are you working with?

Hi Alan.
I'd like to work off the surface. It doesn't need to be height adjustable, but can be. Portability is a concern, but not rapid setup (as long as I can do it within 10 minutes). Props aren't necessarily hidden until I use them. Up to $600.00 |

Lefler table, either large or small, or a Viking "Pro-Table" are exactly what you're looking for.

If you go with your reference you will need one of these for every trick you perform. What props do you use in a show? That will dictate your type of table to use.
Lefler is an excellent as well as the Fairchild tables. |

There is a fantastic book about magicians tables. It is freely available at Amazon.
For Magicians Only: The Table Book by Eugene Gloye, Francis Marshall , Jay Marshall And I always recommend some real furniture. For modern shows I would choose modern designs, for a lot of shows antique furniture is suitable. Magicians tend to use collapsible things that do not look first class. Furniture rates your show as much as your clothing. You wear tails or tuxedo - a 19th century rosewood teastand would look fine. You wear designer jeans, a shirt as seen in the last men´s vogue magazine - a perspex and chrome table can be fine... For a modern style show I would recommend a look at the illusion tables of Andrew Mayne - you will not build the illusion (girl hidden in the table) but the design (fluorescent lights, steel wire and brackets) looks unusal and attractive. |

For childrens' performances, I work out of a large plastic tote, sitting on a restaurant tray stand. The tote has a large, colorful sign attached with magnets to one end, with my name on it. If I need a working surface, I use a bar stool.
When performing for adults, I work out of a small duffle or catalog case, sitting on a bar stool or tray stand. If I need a working surface, I use a bar stool. |

During my off season when all I do are Birthdays, I use two of the tables you pictured (they are nice and cheap) and a Lefler type table to tote everything in. I put the case behind me and the two tables on each side of the "stage." Great set up and lot's of space for props.
One note, the table you pictured comes with an aluminum base. The rivets used to attach the short brace to the table leg snap after opening and closing a lot. Either be prepared to tape the table back together at an important gig or drill out the rivets and replace them with a good steel fastener from Ace Hardware etc. FYI, I pack my 45'ish minute show including a PA, Run Rabbit Run, Hippity Hop Rabbits, Stratosphere, a Square Circle, both side tables and several other small props in my Lefler type table.

Walmart had some really big tennis balls, might be bigger than this one. I don't think they had the writing on them though (nice one KrazyJay). Pet stores are really cool for finding tennis balls of all different sizes.

I agonized over finding the right table for several months. Then while strolling through a cat show, I saw a Pet Grooming table! Bingo, I had my table. I place a close up pad on it, and I am ready to go. I found a seamstress who is making a tablecloth for it. The table also folds. Just google "Pet Grooming Table" and you should find a lot of choices.

Here's my newest table. I built it for cocktail parties where I want to stay in more or less one permanent spot. Although it does have wheels to move around easily. The top is the size of a street style table. I wanted a kind of street style look for indoors. The top is pin hinged underneath for easy removal and transport.
