Matrix is such a nice easy to understand logical and direct piece of magic that the audience can clearly understand what is happening throughout the routine. I've always enjoyed watching a clean uncluttered coin/card version and Vinny's offering fills the bill nicely in these regards. I enjoyed his interpretation and handling variations very much.
After giving credit to Al Schneider and Derek Dingle for their pioneering work on Matrix, Vinny proceeds to demonstrate his one-handed version of Matrix--using just four ungimmicked half dollars and four ungimmicked coins. As I watched this, I immediately thought of Rene Levand and, although I have never seen Rene Levand perform a one-handed coin/card matrix, I am reasonably confident that he must have done so. That said, this is Vinny's take on the one-handed Matrix effect utilizing moves independently developed by himself. Vinny first teaches a move he calls his Inertia Palm. Since a bumbler like myself has been using this "move" for about 20 years, I'm not certain exactly how original that "move" is but, when coupled with his Crimp Move, this combination transcends the ordinary and becomes a thing of beauty and deception. I also enjoyed his card acquitment used in turning a card over and over again in the hand while hiding the coin in his Crimp Move position. I knew the coin was there but not because I could see it. No, I knew it was there because, in the explanation, Vinny openly showed the coin in that position and then fried me with his continuous demonstration of both his one-handed natural turnover move and his two finger display Scissor Move (my term--)both of which were effectively used in combination to naturally hold (and move) the card around in the hand to simulate an empty hand. The coin pickups and drops were also nicely executed and, together with all the foregoing card and coin acquitments, made for a very a very deceptive, relatively easy to perform (and enjoyable to watch) effect. What I really liked about this effect is that I really think that this effect is something I can actually learn and perform with relative ease in learning the moves involved and then deceptively executing the same in performance. I have a few little niggles--such as 1) wanting to see more consistency in the manner of displaying each coin and card and, 2) not picking up a "discarded" card--only to turn it over once again and then immediately putting it back down. But, that said, those niggles are easily remedied as you, the performer sees fit and these niggles did not overly detract from my enjoyment of watching the performance and learning from the explanations. And finally, the background music was mellow and nice to listen to--and, in this old fuddy duddy's opinion, was perfect background music with which to silently perform this effect. Unfortunately, that melody is now permanently burned into my brain and, try as I might, I can't stop thinking about it. AARGH! Nice job, Vinny. Mike

I love this thing!
Just another well-done piece of magic from Godfather. Every month something different and worthwhile. And as the Turk basically keeps saying here, "The man is amazing!"

That may be true, but Vinny always has his own little touches and finesses. His all access is a great deal, and he's a very kind and generous man and a credit to the community.
Thanks Vin!
