Do you guys know where I can get instructions or blueprints to make some of the Jerry Andrus (or similar) optical ilusions? I heard of a book in print in Japan, but I'm guessing the instructions are in Japanese. Also, have you guys ever presented these illusions at your shows? I wouldnt present them as magic tricks, just as somethig cool to see and tie it into magicians using illusions. I'm not sure the best size to pesent them, or how I should show them to make them work visually, or even if it is practical to drag them to shows. Thanks.

Hi-
I’ve made my own version of most of the Jerry Andrus illusions. Unfortunately, the only illusions with instructions online are the Paradox Box and the Gathering for Gardner dragon. I was able to build the rest by looking at videos of Jerry and cutting out the shapes. I have presented them for a classroom once. I would highly recommend trying to build some on your own. I have 10 or 12 different Jerry Andrus optical illusions and they’re a lot of fun. Below are 2 links. Let me know if you have more questions. The paradox box instructions: http://homeschoolvideos.com/downloads/il......dout.pdf A great video of Jerry Andrus’ work: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=719354489813088180# |

I'm a little late finding this thread, but I`m glad I did. It made my day!
Certainly worth reviving. Thank you very much Rex for posting the links of a true genius of Illusions. Have fun, John

A video version of the trizonal space warper can be seen on youtube at
http://richardwiseman.wordpress.com/2009......llusion/ And there's a large animated gif midway down the page at http://bbrilliant.com/friends/Jerryandru......dex.html that will work using a computer. Truncating the above link to: http://bbrilliant.com/friends/Jerryandrus_old/new/illusions/ will take you to more aids for putting together some of the Andrus illusions. ----- Sonny

I finally got to meet Jerry Andrus in the mid '80s. I was touring Oregon schools, and phoned him. I parked the RV at his home, and spent a delightful weekend with him. We "played with" some of his props, in the "castle of chaos" (I think that that's what he called his home!)
Jerry was one of the most "interesting" characters that I have ever met! --and, I have met a few!!!

Here is an optical illusion (that you can make yourself) that I have not seen before.
It is related to the work of Jerry Andrus. http://poseidon.sunyopt.edu/BackusLab/si......on_0.pdf |
