Daily Motion--a video website--has a demonstration and exposé of the vanishing cane at
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7izt6_......creation It's a nicely done routine. I'm just surprised that it's on a relatively public site. Of course, the average person probably wouldn't go searching on the Internet for an exposé of the vanishing cane, any more than the average person would go to the public library in search of a magic book in the 793.8 section. ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

The videos are tagged "tutomagic" but I can't trace the name further. He has a lot of video links at

I believe that's Alexander DeCova. May be this is from an instructional dvd that was posted by someone other than himself?

The object of most of this exposure is in the numbers. The web link is usually in the description or on the end of the video. 2% turns into sales for unrelated products. Its a shame. Now, the other thing is "pay per clicks", that is all of the little banner ads, and "click here" points of related interests. .05 per click, another .10 for click thru, or even so much per thousand from Google. The subject matter is unimportant, but has to have interest, times 100 similar instructions.

It's Alexander de Cova.
But those videos are initially from instructional videos that he brought out. Anyway, I don't think at all that it's himself who put them on the net. Oliver. |

Magicians,
Could you please explain me in other words what you wrote , because I'm having trouble to understand correctly what you mean. Thank you. Oliver. |

Some people look for video clips that they feel would give them lots of viewers. They download a tutorial and put it on their own site.
So, they find a video about canes in hopes that someone will look at the page and when you look at the video, you may press one of the buttons from the sponsor on their page. The owner of the site, gets money when people view the ad or if the viewer buys the product.

Magicians,
Thanks for the explanation. I can't believe what people are ready to do just for some money. Oliver. |

You over-estimate the power of this. The chance that someone will watch the video and need it or use it or even care other than a point of curiosity is probably nil. If a magician watches it, he will remember it because it is a viable vanish.
If a non-magician sees it and it peeks their curiosity, then that could be good as we all have to have had a spark of inspiration. In either case, this will not affect the world of magic much. ----------- In the case of the needle thru balloon, the cub scouts of the USA have a scotch tape method in their magic manual which is as good an explanation as any. I am sure your next event of 200 people will not have anyone suspect your methods due to web exposure, the odds are against it.

As I recall, on one of his early specials, Doug Henning did the needle through balloon using the Scotch(tm) tape method and fooled a lot of magicians who knew the marketed needle through balloon and wondered how he was able to do the effect without using the standard path for the needle from the neck to the opposite end. Remember the old saying: "If you want to keep a secret, publish it in a magic book." That probably goes double if you publish it in a magic book for kids.

I believe E-Z Magic/D. Robbins Wholesaler sold this version back in the 1960's, of using tape on the balloon or was it U.F. Grant.
