I've only seen one of the LOTR films, so I apologise for the lack of presentation with this idea.
I'm not sure this is bizarre, but it's easily storytelling magic, so I thought it belongs here. Whilst pattering about LOTR, you show a gold ring, and suddenly, all the engravings appear on it like Bilbo (?) saw on the movie. Just buy yourself a plain ring, one of the LOTR engraved ones (they're in the UK at about £7 = $10ish) and then just perform your favourite spellbound routine. |

The only problem with LOTR "the one ring" related effects is that I can not imagine any spectator who really knew the story (and there a lot of them, especially now) not suggesting you slip it on and "vanish". I would want to be able to go that extra mile if I could, but I have no idea how to pull it off without excessive "hoop jumping". Perhaps in a large venue, you could perform the change in the audience, then return to stage, put it on, and vanish in a suitable puff of smoke assuming all the requirements are available?

And any spectator who really knew the story would also know of the perils in using the ring, and accept such an explanation, no?

Another thought struck, it might be nice to perform this for two spectators - and switch the rings as you show each one, so that one spectator can see the marks and the other can't.

You might want to check out my Bizarre Bazaar column in the e-zine Visions (www.online-visions.com) for "Lord of the Ring(s)", a comedy-bizarre working, using the rings allegedly from LOTR.

Ooooh, that effect is worth doing for that pun alone! Nice Peter, I like them dry and groaning. In fact, I'd be tempted to try and work in a few more, like "What's a nazgul like you [nice girl like you] doing in a place like this?" etc.

WR's suggested link will take you directly to the article, rather than my link which will require you to sort through other writers and articles.

Very nice, a wonderful way of taking out the "old box" and using it in an entertaining way. And since the third part of the Lord Of The Rings series "The Return Of The King" comes out later this year, we might all want to practice this one for the various performance opportunities we will have in the near future.
Thanks Peter. :comply:

Cool. Any other effects that we can think of that are LOTR based?

You could do a routine about the origin of the one ring and how it was taken from Sauron, and Gollum and anything else you find worthy. And of course you would have to do it all dressed up as Gandalf. I prefer Gandalf the gray because with that huge beard and hat you could have all sorts of nicknacks hidden in there. Or some fire effects could be concealed in his staff.

Make sure you fireproof that beard though
