Hi guys and gals,

While rummaging through my collection, I've found a rainbow deck. This one is different from the others I've seen, it has 3 predictions as opposed to 2 like most versions. I know how to do the first 2, but I'm clueless as to how to do the 3rd one. If this needs to be taken into Secret Sessions or can be answered via pm, no problemo! Thanks guys!

Or maybe I'm confusing everyone with the term rainbow deck, I think the correct term is Muesem deck? basically the entire deck is all say the 8 of D with the prediction cards being different

Lunatik, Just to confirm, is this the deck of, say, all 8D and then 2 pairs of other cards? I have such a deck and the effect always goes down very well. Let me know and I can explain what I do via pm.

B.T.W. A rainbow deck is a deck of cards that has backs that are all different from each other. Color design etc... It's often used in color changing deck routines.

Everyone seems to get confused with the rainbow deck....yes, a rainbow deck is one in which the backs are all different BUT there is also an effect called 'rainbow deck' where all of the faces, bar the 2 selection groups, are the same. It is a sort of a 'Gemini Twins' and the backs are, of course, all different. I enquired in a magic shop recently for the rainbow deck effect, described it to the demonstrator and was told that what I wanted wasn't a rainbow deck.....he was a little surprised when, a few minutes later, I pulled the desired effect from his shelves, labelled 'rainbow deck'! He had no idea what it actually was!

The effect that you are talking about captainsmiffy isn't often known by the name of Rainbow deck. On of the better versions of that effect is Dave V's that was marketed by Scotty York and is now an exclusive with Denny&Lee's shop it's called Quintuplicate coincidence. There is another version that is from Lennert Green- Stolen cards, that was put out by A-1 so as for the demonstrator wasn't really that incorrect in not knowing what you were talking about.

Beg to differ since he - not me - was selling the goods! Thus he should have known! I have often seen it in shops, most notably in Roy Waltons shop in Glasgow and Magicbox in Newcastle. I have 4 decks purchased at these shops over the years and they are marketed under the name 'Rainbow Deck'; indeed, I have the instructions for it in my hand as I write...Am aware of the other 'better' versions.

Personally, if I was running a specialist shop then I would expect the demonstrator to be at least conversant with the goods/title. It surprised me to point out his stock to him hence my pointing out on here that there appears to be some confusion.......

Maybe over there it is come commonly called a Rainbow deck. But in the U.S. if you mention a rainbow deck the first thing that comes to most magicians minds is a deck of 52 different faces. The backs of course are different. At least if you mention a rainbow deck to someone that has been involved with magic for at least 20 years or more that is. Newer magicians may not even know what a rainbow deck is.

Agreed if one is working in a magic shop it is assumed that the person knows most of what is in the shop. But having worked in magic shops Myself it's not always easy to remember everything that is there. Certainly harder to remember things that may not sell that often.

As good as the effect you had asked about is. It's hard to see where it wouldn't be a good seller. But then again the less amount of magicians that know of a certain effect sometimes the better it is for those that do use the effect.

It's the same effect lunatik. Jack Carpenter has a version just have to work out the placement of the extra pair. It certainly wouldn't matter if you didn't use the third pair if you can't work out the details on how to use them.

Yep, it's the placement that I need. Can any help in that regard?

Get Jack Carpenter's Expert Card Magic DVD. On the DVD there is an effect called A Potent Presage. That effect should help you with the set up.
