After doing magic professionally for 10 years I've decided it's time to enter the world of rubber band magic.

I know good rubber band magic is powerful because it uses an everyday object that people are familiar with and because, when done right, it's really full of eye-popping illusions.

So what is the absolute best direction for me to go to delve into it? DVD? Book? And where do I find it??

Thanks!

Randy:

Here is a thread I read when I had learned all the rubber band tricks I found in my general magic books.

A list of great resources, with more mentioned in the thread:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......&forum=4

Another thread about DVD's specifically:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......&forum=4

After reading the first thread I purchased the "Hot Shot" DVD. I'm only part way into it because I keep stopping it to practice the tricks. It has a great range of tricks and was available for a very good price at Fun Tyme. My next least expensive option would have been Elastrix and Elastrix 2. I know they're great, but the DVD turning out to be a lot of fun just to watch. Ben Salinas is the teacher, and watching him makes things very clear. Magic Makers is also expanding their video technique to including more effective closeups, however they zoom the camera to achieve framing while shooting footage. Other than that the quality is very high. Ben Salinas comes off as a guy you'd like to meet, too.

Before you start get yourself a variety of sizes and colors in the bands. Sometimes you will want contrasting colors, sometimes matching. Not all sizes work for all tricks, either.

Have fun!

Hi,
What I recommend are:
Link! DVD
Vinny Marini's Liquid Band
Daniel Garcia's FIVE DVD
Daniel Garcia's BendTouchSlink DVD
Joe Rindfleisch's Extreme Rubber Band DVD
Dan Harlans's Band Shark DVD

IMO, they are the best DVDs on the subject.

In order to get the propper introduction to rubber band magic you must start at the beginning. Dan Harlan has "Bandshark", and a three volume set of rubber band magic that you should first digest before you are ready for Rindfleisch, Marini, and Mendoza. If you learn the tricks of those four men you will have as wide a selection of tricks as you will ever need.

Thanks for the links there were some very funny quotes there that I really enjoyed reading again.

I've found a lot of my favorite stuff hidden here and there.
Chris Kenner, Simon Aronson (Try The Impossible), Pinnacle by Russ Niedzwiecki

The best stuff all seems isolated rather than in a collection of band work.

Also check out Linx by Alex Pandrea. It's a nice three phase linking rubber band routine.

Not only is he going out of frame to set it up, but it sure looks like an old recycled Dan Harlan trick to me. I don't think that Alex Pandrea did his homework.

Alex you did credit the right people on your blog. You also added a very nice unlinking, that is on Dans dvd but your handlng is superior imo
but my complaint is I would of loved to see you perform linx without going out of frame, I guess this is THEORY 11'S way of selling a product.
so congratulations for a very visual effect ...

Hey Vinny

thanks buddy, if I ever get the change I would definitely show you this, plus a killer second phase which I didn't put on the download ;-)

The way I think of it is that we tried to duplicate exactly what the spectator sees in real life. That motion of bringing the hands down to setup, plus the minimal setup required (less than a second) will go over the spectators head completely, however it is harder to misdirect the camera. Smile

If Vinny says that you have given propper credits then it is so.
