Hello My name is Joe and I am just starting out on my road in magic(2 years practice). I my aim is to become one day a full time magic performer but at the moment I am a little perplexed as to how to start. I know a good few card tricks and have looked at other forms of magic mental, slights and even purchased some ninja rings. I contacted a a local magician by email and he advised me to contact my local Magic Circle for help (as I realize that there are lots of mistakes and trails and tribulations to be learned from and that I would be best to seek advice to take my magic to the next level). But on doing this I received an application that looked like a job interview asking what experience I have in the real world and who my Influences are and basically I felt like they were looking for someone who is already magic savvy. So Where am I to start to get the knowledge? I am 31 (not old) but I feel I would like to make my time count. I am not looking for a free ride just a guiding hand.
A bit Perplexed Joe |

Greetings,
You should soon recieve a few replies with advice. Two years of practice. Have you found your way into magic with the gimmick tricks? Are you pursuing manipulation? To work in the art of illusion. Practice is essential. Practice with patter. Then slowly use your friends. I have a mirror. Most magicians will see this as a three sided mirror that you can purchase and practice slight of hand. My mirror is a good friend of mine. When I work through a new close up or parlor illusion I ask my mirror to watch my presentation. Several times. Critique me. Allow me to improve. You need to read. Understand how to orchestrate a show. The art of magic is actually about setting the scene. Presenting the illusion. Performing the illusion. Finally bring the illusion to a climax. Leinad

Thank-You for your reply Leinad,
I practice manipulation (and am fairly confidant with a pack of bikes) I am not so keen on gimmicks although I have just bought a Mirage Deck Which Is getting some good responses from the people I have showed it to. I must admit though up until now I haven't managed to master the art (people who know me say I do have the gift of the gab thought lol) of patter and feel that this Is letting me down a bit any ideas as to a good book on to orchestrate a show? or Patter? Thank You again for your response I am very grateful. Joe. |

Look at each card effect you do.when you spread the cards to be chosen, is it smooth. when you cut the cards to the top are smooth and relax or are going to fast.just break each part down.
