What are the different ways of having your dummy to operate it's own figure?

I've seen vent figures with dummies of their own that have a small, round port in their side under a loose suit coat. The "dummy's dummy" has a tube or dowel, then, that fits into the port with a string or brass piece that works the smaller creature's mouth. Vent just needs to be certain that the bigger figure's hanging "operating" hand doesn't show if the set up is done onstage.
