I've seen these things in the stores here in California, but haven't seen kids wearing them around. If it hasn't started here yet, it's ready to take off.

Talking to a couple of Silly Bandz kids in my restaurant last night, I discovered something I didn't realize. Apparently they use the old trading card ploy of placing rare bands in random packages to encourage multiple and frequent purchases. Apparently, the "Man in the Chair" and the "Tie Die iPhone" are the rarest Bandz. There's also a Loch Ness Monster, Hedgehog, Dragon, glitter Mermaid and Glow-in-the-Dark Unicorn.
So, like any collectible, the rarer the band the greater the demand. This changes my opinion that these will be a quick flash in the pan. Interest is high here. In fact, they've been banned from certain elementary schools in the area as a distraction. That should fuel the rebellious fires! :\ Rare custom bandz will certainly have kids pounding a path to our doors. Amazing!

Yesterday I met my wife and our 3 year old grand daughter for lunch, when I got to the restaurant I caught them trading rubber bands. Rubber band trading is popular with senior citizens too. LOL

I don't know if this is still relevant to you guys, but I ordered some from a company online for my music group a few weeks ago, and they did a great job and we got them in like 2 weeks ... theyre at http://www.bandeez.com .. had to order 12000 of them though so I have a butt-ton of them
is there tricks to use with them? Id be highly interested in that, especially for my live shows when I perform my music, I kinda want to incorporate magic into my music sets somehow, still trying to figure that out, and if I cna figure out something to do with all these extra silly bandz I have, that can incorporate all these things together, that would be AWESOME |

Welcome to the magic Café. Any trick that you would do with rubber bands would be a close up trick. Do you plan to walk around to do magic? That being said there is a fabulous old trick called crazy mans handcufs, or CMH it is done with two rubber bands, and it is one of my favorite tricks to do. The best way to learn it is from Michael Ammar. I think that is in pamphlet form, but I'm not sure.

Right on, thanks! I just started a thread in the new to magic section as well, but I shall look up that trick... most of my performances nowadays are in a dj booth, but I can leave it or call people up into it, etc...

What shapes rubber bands did you get?
There is another trick called StarGazer that if you had a band logo rubber band you can creat your logo instead of the star to give out.

I was sharing some of my bands with my brother who just returned from Florida. He said he had seen some in the shape of a cross. I am guessing there is also some already made in the shape of a heart.

Post show today, noticed a young man with lots of bands. (age about 10)
Used one of his bandz with one of mind...shoe versus dinosaur... His shoe won. Off too a Christian Bookstore tomorrow for some give away bands at a church event on Saturday. Be safe, well and creative. Harris

OK, here is some information from an article in the Chicago Sun Times "Silly Bandz could be the 'hottest toy of the year'"
"ita only the beginning", "Silly Bandz and copycat rivals are rolling out new products and planning a back to school onslaught, with items like Silly necklaces that can hold gobs of the bands, bands that change colors in the sun", "lunch boxes filled with 72 Silly Bandz", "estimated to now be $200 million a year business", "Toys R Us is selling 'tens of thousands' of packs a day", "Sarah J. Parker & Mary-Kate Olsen have been seen in them", "some college bookstores are stocking them for back to school", "Ouizno's has a Silly Bandz kids meal on tap. Marvel Comics & Nickelodeon recently signed licensing deals. Forever Collectibles has Major League Baseball & Disney under contract, with shapes from New York Yankees logos to Tinker Bell and Hannah Montana"

Yeah I don't see them going away anytime soon, theyre getting crazy news coverage.
@wonderbob - I think you gave the main reason why it has slowed down for sales in your own post - school is out... no school, no opportunities for the kids to trade them So, I went ahead and learned the cray mans handcuffs trick, and wow'd my daughter with it with her own set she has collected... now just to use it at shows while I am mingling with the crowd I think will work best... @ Al Angello - still don't have my photo uploaded from my phone to my comp, but will put it up when I do |

After a show yesterday a mom and daughter approached me. Mom said her daughter had noticed my bandz...and then took one of her wrist(the daughter) and gave me what I think is a Mickey Mouse Band.
Over the years I have gotten small tokens along with smiles and hugs. This was the first time I was "banded". I took off a white lamb band and gave it to the nice young lady. Be safe, well and creative. Harris
