I've worked with several peers, using weeks of observations and hours of hidden camera footage to put together an interactive Three Disk Monte game.
It's based on the REAL game, as it is played on the streets. It includes some of the sleight of hand used but, more importantly, answers the questions....what happens when I pick correctly? It's the closest to the real thing you'll get without losing cash! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7P5UC46jUr8 |

Where can I find information on the discs that are used? I've never seen them used on the streets in NY.

They are a European design, based on the leather and metal disks the roma have used for many years.
When the EU made travel in Europe very cheap and easy, the crews started travelling more. The disks are now very popular and common throughout Europe and the UK. I've seen 20-30 different crews all using identical disks. I got them from a crew in Paris and have spoken with a manufacturer about producing them here in Australia. I'll let you know when I get my hands on some! |

You could just make this out of drink coasters.

You could try.
However, there are several features to these disks that make them ideal for the monte. These guys use cardboard boxes and bits of newspaper for their playing surface. but then they invest in special disks to play with when they could use equally cheap coasters. There is probably a reason for that... |

I could also make my own playing cards from cereal boxes too but I recognise the benefits of using the best cards available. |

Love that - its gotta make top 10 Café quotes The disadvantage of coasters - on the street is they are too lightweight also they are liable to bounce a little more, especially if hype at the wrong angle. The heavier disks can be used for flip manouevers too. That said I use coasters - a rubber foamy kind ... I posted some instructions on the scoundrels forum. Also got some a nice leather set I made from Ikea bits but left it in the UK. Have to make a trip to ikea again.
