I have a friend in magic that is officially retiring. He will be selling all of his stuff and I am going to try and help him. There are several items that I do not know much about so I will be asking more questions here.
The first one is run cookie monster run. This is the one that was made and had to quit being produced because of copywrite.
My questions are
1. Who put this out and when?
2. What was the original price?
3. Does any one have the original instructions they can send me
4. What is it worth now. It is unused but I would rate it 8 out of 10.

I will accept offers and give to my friend but I am trying to get some history and see what it is worth

Thanks
Tim

The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

I thought these were sold by Hank Lee. I think they were a white plastic of some type. I've had a couple and sold them. Mine sold for around $100 each about 8-10 years ago. I can't help you on the other questions.

I was looking at one last month at the Knights of Sleights magic flea market in the Chicago area and was told by the owner it was make by MAK Magic. He explained it had been removed from the market due to copywrite issues. He was asking $100 for it and stated he would not take less. I hesitated as I wasn't certain of it's heritage and it did sell about an hour later. I regretted not purchasing it. If your is in nice shape I beleive $100 seems to be where the market is.

I talked to a dealer about this and he said it'll fetch $300 on eBay

Maybe it would fetch that much on ebay, but I would be shocked if it did. I've sold on ebay for over 10 years and right now the market is pretty soft. There is way too much junk in the magic section now. It's hard to sort through it to find the good stuff. I used to have a couple of the Jack Hughes "Run Bonzo Run" that were a really great version of this effect. If I were buying one right now, I'd be looking for a Chance Wolf, "Run Wolf Run."

I bought mine from Hank Lee back in the '70's for somewhere around 75 bucks if I remember correctly.

I just discovered that I have one of these. Mine is in a very nice black case that I believe may have been made by a Mr. Ron Bacon back in the '70s. It has never been used and is in perfect condition. I may have purchased it from Al's Magic shop in Washington and then bought the case separately. Can't recall. I do have the original instructions also. Are they still desired? Please advise.

It was a Hank Lee item and it hing the original price was about 75.00. They were taken off the market when Henson did a cease and desist. There also was a Fraidy cat Kermie. Both were taken off the market. Due to copyright infringement.

I never knew about Fraidy Cat Kermit either. I wonder if there were copyright issues with that like there were with Cookie Monster? I always wanted a Run Cookie Monster Run, and if it is built nice Kermit would be pretty nice to have too!

I never saw the Kermit either, but used to own the Big Bird "skeleton in the closet" style effect which was called "Big Bird's House" (I believe).

I have the Hank Lee version - bakery bear. For the right age group it is great. When I use it, I usually do "Bake a Cake" first and have the blue bakery bear appear with the cake produced earlier, placed in the crowd. Chance Wolf has a version - Wolf Run Wolf - out of production -

Run Cookie Monster Run was definitely put out by Hank Lee. It is made of plastic with some metal screws holding it together. After Jim Henson's company got Hank to stop making it, Hank revamped the product as Bakery Bear. Cookie Monster was replaced by a bear. The directions for the latter effect warned that the product should not be left in a hot car because it could melt by virtue of having been made of plastic.

These have gone for somewhere in the $200.00 range on EBay when the economy was good. That was a few years ago. I know that a dealer sold one on EBay over a year ago for around $100.00. Now is not the best time to be selling one of these if you expect to get a good price for it.

Good luck!

I saw one a few weeks ago on hocus pocus. I think it was $345.00.

I would love to see the list your friend has for sale.

I have one. I never used it. It's been in storage for 30 years. I'd part with it for $250.

I have seen all kinds of versions in the "Estate Sale" section of Fab Magic. In fact, I saw one there this week that was not a cookie monster. You can also look at the estate sales at Hocus Pocus in Fresno. Your mileage may vary.

There was one on Amazon a while back, selling for $250. The magic ethics people never seem to say anything about the theft of intellectual property by magicians from non-magicians, do they? Guess it doesn't count.
