Hi:

Can someone give me a brief history of the RESOR Magic company (Lima, Ohio)?

No info. is on-line.

All I pretty much know - is their 1961-1963 Linking Ring ads, and a 1965 Genii ad.

And, exactly what years were they in business?

Thank you.

George Robinson has most of the dope on them as he bought the company.

I know from my Marshall connection that Mr. Resor worked full time for the electric company. He built magic on the side until he retired. He was a bachelor.

Richard Resor was a member of Ring 205 in Lima, formed by Dick Haas, Lowell Forbes and myself in the late 1960s, when I was a teenager and occasional customer at Resor Magic. Resor was very eccentric but built high-quality stuff, fairly pricey. He died in 1979 and Lowell Forbes (who lives in Tiffin, Ohio) handled the estate. Resor had previously sold to George Robinson (Viking Magic) but all of his personal items were stored at my house after his death, including large illusions and one-of-a-kind pieces, until the big auction in 1980 or 1981. Some bakery owner from Cincinnati bought most of the good stuff. Dick Haas would be your best source of info [rghaas@wcoil.com]. John Butorac of Akron worked for Resor in the mid 1960s and would also be a good source. [MRbutorac@aol.com]

KEN KLOSTERMAN is the "bakery owner from Cincinnati". Ken has one of the largest collections of antique magic props. I've been a house guest of Ken's, and had carte blanche "admission" to his treasures! It was like being a kid in a candy store!!!

I will have to look at the Klosterman stuff to see what is still there. It might have been when he owned Venture III and resold the magic.
I just took Jeff Hobson over for a tour and spent a few days with Ken again. It is always a new adventure every time I go there. We held a big Collector's Gathering there last June that was really something to behold from the lectures to the collection itself. It was a great time.
