Hey Magic Bus, I sent you a message on youtube a while ago asking where you got that spot can. It's a lot better quality than the one I have.

I had a metamorpho spots can years ago I bought from Abbott's. The can in the video (shot was done in one take so it is far from perfect and I wish I could do it over) I bought from Dave's booth at the FCM convention two summers ago (I can't remember Dave's last name- he is a fulltime vent, magician, and portrays Ben Franklin in school shows, plus sells magic, clown and vent props- he is from down South someplace- a terrific and very funny vent). This can was actually very inexpensive.
If you ever do Metamorpho Spots in a very hot location (like outside), you will not be able to get the can sleeve to move easily. Solution (and it works great for me): attach a piece of black plastic velco tape (the "hooked" portion only) on the back of the can where it cannot be seen. When you make the spots disappear, your thumb is resting on the velco piece and then pushes down- so then the sleeve moves easily as your thumb goes down on the strip... rather than trying to move the sleeve simply using "pressure" only between the thumb and the paper sleeve and then sliding it down. That's why mine moves so easily and I can control the speed of the change while moving the can slightly in a circular motion. My guess is any Metamorpho Spots can will work much better and smoother with this very small modification so your thumb has a place to "grip" to move the sleeve down. Hope that helps, Roger It occurred to me now where I got the can used in the http://www.youtube.com video of Metamorpho Spots (although most magic dealers would have it I'd think). I purchased it from Dave Mitchell of http://www.jammagic.com (got it at his booth at the FCM convention). Nice can and it works well. |

I too had Metamorpho Spots - small and jumbo size - the one where you could produce a dove from Joe Fenichel was the inventor I believe. We have been giving thought to producing the large one since it is no longer available. I loved that trick and the old expose vanish as well..(no longer made)

Abbott's Magic in Colon sells Metamorpho Spots for $18.00. I do not know what they would add on for shipping costs. http://www.abbottmagic.com
Posted: May 27, 2010 6:21pm Hey Rick- I think FAB Magic should sell/manufacture "Noses Off" which I believe is no longer sold anywhere in the world. Really nice, inexpensive and funny trick which packs small and plays big. The few times I have done it- it has always gotten a great response. Works with an adult crowd too. Would be happy to do it for the FAB Magic "open mike" nights during Magic Week in August. I think I got mine out of England someplace years ago. |

Has anyone contacted the boss about this? A comedy writing & theory room? I'd even volunteer to moderate

Dan, your thread is refreshing...the ones listed before yours are worn out! Time for a new suit!

I never post here but I agree. I'm a bit tired of seeing joke threads in this section.

Since there seems to be some resistance to a separate area maybe the powers that be could just put a sticky on a few theory threads to keep them on top???

In the "see the manager section" several people have mentioned and it seems this may happen in the future.
The irony is that a while ago I got fed up seeing everyone using other people's lines and karaoke magic routines so I started the Gag tag thread to encourage originality and creative writing. Unfortunately, a few pages in it became obvious that I was pi**ing into the wind. I once posted there and got told off for not writing a magic related set-up which I thought ridiculous. What are you more likely to use in a comedy magic act an actual funny gag or some contrived in-joke about magic? Stoopid. |

Well, what you started obviously is pleasing some people. 260+ pages and counting, you've given something that some people like, no doubt. I participated in a couple of the early rounds myself. Most of the gag threads have similar results.
We're just wanting them in a separate room, no ones suggested killing them all together. At least, not in public.
