The May 2010 edition of FCM's podcast is up. It happens to have the longest cold open ever...but it eventually gets to the rest of the program. Here is what it includes...
Alicat shares about silliness and its importance to break walls with an audience, Rob Bremner on what God is like with an effect, Joey discusses Healed and Sealed and also making a demo video, Mark revisits the bottle effect and a classic from Mark Wilson's Course in Magic, Faith shares a routine for Burgler Box, Passion for the Past looks at Will Dexter, ideas with Mikame's Money Maker and Trio by Astor, Pastor Rob Watkins shares about his trip to China and more. Hosted by Oz and Wilde.

Wow, another wonderful podcast at http://www.themagicpodcast.com Thanks again Kif! Several weeks ago at Michigan Magic Day, full time magician Jania Taylor (a Chavez graduate) did a packed informational lecture on self promotions and mailers, including doing your own video as discussed by Joey. She said DO NOT send a copy of your act, Joey is spot on. Jania recently moved from Ohio to near Harbor Springs, Michigan. If you go to her website, magicbyjania.com , then click on "Magical Services", then "For Magicians"- you will see her lecture notes "Getting A Gig Is A Full Time Job." She will also review your current promotional materials. Her promotional material were all A+ quality needless to say.
Oz' advice from the past on how to present a rope trick for example (this was towards the end of the podcast) was also very good. Ice MacDonald (who will be performing at the FCM convention this year) I think knows how to take magical pauses (for applause/climatic effect) more than just about any performer I have ever seen before- you'll see. He does it like the late Yule Brenner triumphantly stepping out toward the audience bowing in the King and I. This keeps the "wow" going throughout his entire act. Thanks again ALL for putting this together, I learn something every month from this free FCM resource. |
