Our old facility was great the past 7 years but with an old building that isn't taken care of requires $$ to keep going and the landlord wasn't able to meet our requirements so we had to make a move. The showroom is larger than before. Our printing, sewing, feather flowers will be housed here but we now have two separate wood shops - small one in house and the other is fully equipped with paint shop about 5 blocks over.

Nice Rick! You have been super busy for sure!
By the way, I love to point out for anybody into this type of thing- Colon really does have a restaurant that serves steaks, crab legs, seafood, etc.- at the nearby neato Riverlake Inn. I know I myself was not even aware of this place until only a few years ago- go there all the time now. Rick I see is performing at their upcoming Hummingbird Festival. Their weekend all-you-can-eat-buffet includes crab legs which are pretty rare for a buffet... and you literally see from your table dozens of hummingbirds flying around while you dine. Take the wife there if she is joining you this year... Can't wait for Magic Week! Roger from http://www.ChristianMagician.org |

You would be surprised what kind of females you meet in Colon
Last year I went there to perform for my friend Rick Fisher at FAB magic in Colon, Mi., so when I got to town I went to Curly's bar to regester for their close up contest (which I came in second). When I sat down at the bar there was a cute little girl on the bar stool next to me (about 7 years old) I said to her "hi hunny would you like to see a magic trick", she said "yes", so I pulled a couple rubber bands off of my wrist and started to do CMH. She giggled and said "my poppy does that one", so I started to do "StarGazer", she said my poppy does that one too. I tried to make her the pearl poodle, and the napkin rose, but her poppy did them too. I was absolutely stumped then her poppy came out of the mens room, and all I could do was to introduce myself to him.

I'm sorry Roger but I don't remember his name. He was a well preserved 60 year old man, (about my age) who I assumed was a Michigan resident, and he had a very pretty grand daughter. He also told me that like myself he did a lot of kids parties.

Roger;
Thank you for the info on the Riverlake Inn! I was unaware that there was a buffet in close proximity. One does get tired of hot wings and burgers for every meal! Mike |

The weekend buffet there (with all the crab legs) is pretty pricey, but my wife eats a ton of those buggers so well worth it for her. Very fast of course as it is a buffet, crab legs on the buffet only on weekends (Fri-Sun). I usually get the broasted chicken dinner with full salad bar and a side, is only about $12.99 in a wonderful setting. Sit near the windows so you can see the hummingbirds flying around outside- they've got dozens living right there on the grounds. My wife has also had various whitefish dinners, and I have had both steak and primerib, all excellent. You can order it off the menu- or it is generally all on the buffet as well- so probably faster if you go that route. The chef who has been there for many years knows what he is doing- and the owner Marv makes some pretty cool cocktails (like "Hawaiian Sunsets") if you you are into that kind of thing. I think more magicians may becoming aware of it- I did see a table of them eating lunch there during the last close up convention at Abbott's... I know Greg Bordner likes it too. Get directions to get there- the bridge was out last time I checked that connects Colon to Ralston Road where the Riverlake Inn is located, but it is not that far out of the way to go around (near the Colon cemetary if I recall). Check out their web site for location- call them for up to date directions (but the bridge should be fixed by now?) or I am sure the local Colonites would know the best way to get there. I'd estimate it is less than a 6 or 7 minute drive east from the Colon High School, or you may have to go west first and curve back around if the small connecting road bridge is still out...

Howdy
The River Lake Inn is a terrific restaurant. Magicbus, the bridge is still closed. It was closed for structural reasons and repair actually won't begin until August, so it will be closed during the GT. The River Lake Inn ad in the program will feature a map reflecting the change in driving route. Your assumption was right, you will drive north on Farrand past Lakeside Cemetery (be sure to wave) and continue over the bridge. Turn right at the first street after the bridge, Blossom Rd. continue on through the first stop sign. At the second stop sign turn right, Ralston Rd. Continue forward on Ralston keep to the right. After all the winding curves River Lake Inn will emerge on the right. Enjoy your meal! |

Thanks BJ- we will be there most likely on Friday before the Abbott's GT evening show and fireworks. Can't wait! By the way, as all the locals probably know too, it is deer city around there about dusk... look out for those critters all over the place- one time 10-12 strolled up while we were eating...

Just got off the telephone to two television stations - Indiana and Michigan and NPR Radio who all plan on being here for magic week...It's time we get Colon back into the national spotlight!

Hey fellow magishes- bring lots of stuff to perform on Rick's store stage- you might find yourself on national tv! No doubt camera crews will be roaming around looking for something interesting to film- and it could be you! Nice! Channel 3 television out of Kalamazoo usually covers Magic Week too every year.
