Just curious. Is $200 a fair asking price? Chris |

A couple of years ago you could get 'em for $75 but they are getting kind of scarce even though he made a bazillion of em. Many were extremely fragile and just crumbled away. It all depends on your wallet Chris...only buy what you really like...then price doesn't matter.

I wouldnt take it unless it was Free...Fan of Tates Legend..but not his Gaffs...cause the ONLY way you can square his Gaff...is by telling his Legend...
You come to a point in your life when you really don't care what people think about you, you just care what you think about yourself.

I would hate to say a Tate is not worth much, it's worth as much as a collector will pay for it.
I bought a shrunken head like the one at auction for $50. from Ward Hall a couple of years back. I have also seen them sale for a few hundreds of dollars also. http://www.sideshowworld.com/HTC.html |

Wouldn't think of showing one except as a museum piece.
Thanks for the info. $200 seems to be a bit inflated regardless. Chris |

If you're into the history, it's worth it.

Hmmm, I might shell out 200 for one of his pygmy mummies. But for a shrunken head, I wouldn't pay more than 80.
But, that's me....

Well you have to look at it this way, Homer Tate is one of the Original show artists along with Nelson Supply and a few others. Over the years sideshow memorbilia has been in very big demand and collectors have been buying all that they can hence drying up the availible items. Tates items will NOT go down in price but will actually go up as they are becoming harder and harder to find! BUT as a collector you should not just buy a item for investment reasons, you should look at the asthetic beauty of the piece and follow your heart! Though Tates stuff is really crude and would not make a good exhibit in todays era we need to look at its funtionality when they were made. I own several larger Tate pieces and I find them to be very powerfull and quite beautiful for the history behind this mad gaff builder! For anyone who doesn't own a Tate and would like to have one, Id jump at this shrunken head as they don't come around often. And Brett, if you can get a pygmy for 200 id give you 400 for it as that aint goin to happen my friend, lol.

It sold at $200, so it is obviously worth that amount to somebody.
BTW, Doug's stuff in my collection is BOTH for posterity and for show. They still are the most-chosen for video and still photos. The only time that a photorgrapher or director has NOT chosen one of Doug's pieces over another is when they were not available for use in the first place! (True story the end.) Chris |

200 bucks would nearly get me a new Dark Museum set! Tate stuff is great if you want a museum piece, but I would be worried how well they would hold up(dont want to need to put one in a vacuum chamber to preserve it)

Horse glue, toilet paper, wife's hair and old stuff found in the desert.
They should be around long after we're all gone. |
