The first thing I did was check the date. And again the date is irrelevant. I was enjoying myself reading this great resourceful topic years later and the fun was ruined as usual by posts which rather than help cause tension. It's irrelevant whether the person changed or not, the damage is still here. That's why we must be extra cautious on he net.

Would the Bruce Cervon version be considered a 10 Card Poker Deal?

Apart from the fact that it uses more than 10 cards.

Just received an email from Mr.Bob Farmer. he has complied over 105 versions of this effect. But no release date yet. It should be a great read!

Things you do on the Internet are forever and for everyone to see, sometimes even after you remove them. That's not in any way equivalent to saying that time does not exist. But it's an interesting point. I understand what you might be trying to say. Yes, information that is posted on the Internet lasts longer than you probably think that it does. Yes, you should be careful about what you post because it might follow you around for a long time. But to say that your posts will last forever is a bit of an exaggeration. I wrote my first software program back in 1964 in a language called FORTRAN. My father worked as a programmer for a big oil company, and I had access to their IBM 704 computer. I had observed that the line printer made different sounds when it printed different characters. I'd recorded these sounds, done some analysis, and written a FORTRAN program. The end result: the line printer hummed the tune "She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain." I still have the stack of punch cards for that program. It might even still work--if I could find that same line printer connected to an old IBM 704 computer! Use Google to search for information regarding archival information in the digital age. You'll discover that creating error-free copies of digital information indefinitely is a real problem that real people are grappling with. 'Digital obsolescence' is a real issue. (And if this post can still be read in 500 years, the reader might know what a 'Google search' was, but I'd bet my next paycheck (whatever a paycheck might have been) that Google will be long gone by then.)

P.S. (Post Scriptum)
Early in the day, I posted a far less kind version of my ideas to the Internet. I doubt that it will last forever. In fact, if you can find it at all, I'll provide you with a valuable prize.

Dear Tom, with you line of thinking should I consider all this data in this topic as irrelevant because it's three years old?
I don't wish to keep discussing this, but my point was: Yesterday, it was still annoying for me to see those posts (the first time I saw them, btw), as it was 3 years ago for the guys contributing to this topic. I was one of the first few hundreds on the Café and I long for the time when the trolling incidents were rare and far apart. The last time I asked something on the Café, this guy started accusing me without even knowing who I was etc... One reason I frequent forums in general less and less.

Hey man, I think this is a good thread. Why not resurrect it? Good idea, if you have something positive to move it forward. Slamming someone who was having a row 3 years ago with someone else seemed pretty pointless to me.
Anyway, the 10 card poker deal can be a great routine; I've used it and enjoy doing it from time to time. |

I had never seen Aldo's Ten Card Poker Deal before. He showed it to me in person the other day and it blew me away. I even knew some of the phases from Trost's Ten Card Poker Deal and for some reason I was still fooled.
I think the prediction is great. It does give the trick an ending and I was totally fooled by it. Having said that, when you think about it, maybe it doesn't fit with the rest of the routine. But it doesn't matter. It PLAYS. When I watched it, I didn't question the logic of the ending. I was just floored by it. it totally worked. it wasn't until I learned the routine and started thinking about it that I thought it might not fit with what came before. But this analysis was done while thinking about the trick, knowing the method. We have to remember that lay audiences don't do what we do. As long as the trick "appears" to be logical and stuns them then what else matters? We're going after an emotional response, not an intellectual one. Pop culture example: The McGuffin in Casablanca, the "letters of transit" make ZERO sense. Does anyone ever care when they watch the movie? No. Because we're too emotionally involved in the characters and their story. Despite huge flaws in logic, it plays.

Good point mr Francis! But it also depends on the premise you are taking. If you are a mentalist and you are proving you know every move in advance then the prediction makes perfect sense. On the other hand if you are using psychology and suggestion to influence the specrator's choices a prediction would be out of place.

Of course. But Aldo's presentation about "this all works because I predict it" or whatever he said, worked in the moment. See? I don't even remember exactly what he said. But it doesn't matter. It still worked!

I was on the very first magic "forums" in the world. But back then we called them "Mailing Lists" or "BBS". Second, the post I referred to IS trolling. To call someone out on a three year old post is not only petty, it serves no purpose whatsoever other than to make further trouble. So answer this for me: What purpose did that post serve other than revive a three year old argument? That seems to be the very behavior you're harping against. Now I'm done. Have fun defending your mistake. There is now a permanent record of it, as well as your inability to admit when you were wrong. |

Interesting - I think I know most of the versions mentioned here, but - I'll stick to my own 10-card poker deal routine from way back in Deck-Sterity (I think), and my A Much Better Chance. Anyway...

Since my target audience consists mostly of casino personel and gamblers, I don't think anything that goes out of " procedure" is workable (for example, I performed the Power of Poker one time and although its a great trick for laypeople, it got a few questions from gamblers). I think Mexican Poker by Darwin Ortiz is one of the best around for that audience. Yes, it uses a jonas card, but it is quite workable and although its not a real game, its procedure doesn't get questioned as for now.

Hi Erdanse,
this may help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHxVpRvlCfI I am not saying you should do it that way, but perhaps the way you sell it. Ricky Jay starts quite fair and then escalates to fairer and fairer. It's not a normal game anyway. Mr. Lorayne I will have a look at yours as well. I am doing a study on this topic, but it will take some time to cover a good number of them.
