Thanks guys, Michael Vincent is a first class magician. I would also like to thank Steven Youell for his ingenious ring presentation. What a magical idea for taking the sting out of the 10 card poker deal.

Just watched the Micheal Vincent link and I think some guys are gonna find that this is a little more difficult than they will expect.
Not that practice bothers me - but I'm fairly certain that it only APPEARS to look similar to Bannon's - but without the dealing ambiguity's. Watch that 2nd finger on his left hand - and you'll see what I mean. Cheers. John |

Hi John,
Whilst mechanics may be important to the discussion, I personally feel distinctly uneasy about hinting at method on an open forum especially considering the DVD has not even been released yet. Regards, Paul |

Never had any problem whatsoever with my ending for my Ten-Card Poker Deal - the one I originally published in Deck-Sterity. So far, over the decades, no audinece of mine has EVER "quit caring," and most often - applause at the end - a definite end, incidentally. Otherwise, when would they know when to applaud, or stand! You do it, then you do it again, and then maybe again, until you quit, or worse, the audience quits caring. In the versions of the effect by Harry Lorayne and Darwin Ortiz, the effect builds to a climax by having conditions that look progressively more impossible. Scott Guinn's routine has a nice payoff that's presentationally driven, complete with a great tag-line.

Agreed Barry. Both Lorayne's and Ortiz's effects are very well structured as they build to the climax. This is an excellent example as to the difference between method and effect. If you are focused on the method you end up doing the same thing over and over and yes, the audience will stop caring.
If you really look at the effect of those routines, they become more and more impossible even though the method in each phase is essentially the same. Once again, it all comes down to presentation.

How does the audience discern that one method is different from another? Apparently, it's the same trick over and over... they pick the cards they get, and then you win. Or, as a real novelty surprise, THEY win... Wow!
By the way, I happen to know a big name in magic who said to me that if the cards for the Ten Card Deal aren't signed, the trick isn't as emotional for the spectator. |

Well, I've come to one conclusion after this thread and all the great ideas from Lorayne, Vincent, Youell, Farmer, and the others: I'm an idiot for not exploring 10 card poker deals sooner!

I do Aldo Colombini's routine that ends with a great prediction. I have Darwin's and I have Harry's as well. I personally use Aldo's.

And if you don't have such data, then I believe that my opinion is just as good as yours. As to the comment quoted above, it's not only patently ridiculous, it's also so petty that it's not worth addressing. SEY |
