On behalf of Wizard FX Productions I had the chance the other day to sit down with Chris Webb and talk to him about his upcoming new effect 'Through the Ranks' which is an Ultra Visual card routine where a selected card melts through a pack of cards.
Chris talked to me briefly about the applications of the effect and gave me an actual performance of the routine. I thought you guys might like to check the interview out. The link below takes you to the product page where there is a video of the trailer for the product and a video of my interview with Chris. This is a very nice visual version of the card 'meltIng thru' deck idea.
Not only is the gimmick constructed very well but it is also really easy to use. I am friends with Chris and I say that proudly (I think!!) as he is not only a stand up guy that worked immensely hard on his striking vanish to make it the best but he also pumps all of his free time and effort into his effects and he has some really cool ideas... watch this space. I'm surprised there isn't more of a buzz about this to. The actual effect is super visual. IMO it looks as good as 'elevator' but can be done with a regular deck. I have started working on this and I am planning on fitting it into my act. I actually gave this one of the highest marks I have given any product in the Wizard Product Review Show which should show what I think of the effect.

Is this only available in blue? Or we can also buy the red back gimmick?

When I reviewed it for the Wizard Product Review the copy I opened and had a play with was red backed. So, yes it does come in red backed as well!!

Ok thanks Craig. As you've seen it in person, how about the difficulty level to perform this?
And will it be available through U.S. shops?

I'd be interested to see what this looks like coming up through the deck, rather than down, as in the demo - particularly the clean up at the top of the deck.

I'm still wondering about the handling and angle for this. Would it also be possible to move it up instead move it down through the deck?

But unless the spectator is looking straight down at the deck , you have a problem with moving it anywhere ! lol Maybe in a dimly lit room. My biggest issue isn't the left right angles but the straight ahead angle where they can see the front edge of the gimmick card. He says hold it down at a 45 but that's not enough unless your hand covers the entire front edge. Looks way to dodgy to do that . ----------------------------------------- Actually I take that back..lol I've been playing with it and realized you can start it at the bottom...or about 10 from the bottom ..of the deck and work it up then back down. you still have to be weary of the front edge of the gimmick but starting from the bottom you have better control of the deck so it stays perfectly straight as the card slides up and down. PLUS by not inserting the gimmick near the top you save the corners of the card as they easily bend as it slides in. |
