30% isn't bad

setup a split test in google webmaster tools and start testing to try to get it down

Also look at how ppl are finding you..
if about 30% are comming in for a specific keyword from search.. build a 2nd page targeted to the people that are typing that in

Last time I checked mine was 25%... 30% seems pretty average to me and my webmaster seemed to agree when I asked him about it.

When someone looks at your site, stays only a second or two and then moves on... In other words they might have searched for "Orlando Magic" (the basketball team) and found a magician in Orlando so thus they don't stay on that site for more than a couple of seconds because the site was not what they were looking for...

Just to brag...

got about 17 percent. Most of them come from irrelevant searches like wrong language and such.

What is even more interesting: How many people actually visit your sites?

Also, keep in mind this about bounce rates:

Servers don't know how long a single page is loaded on a user's browser until that person moves onto another page.

SO....

If they visit one page (take a blog's homepage, for example) and spend five to ten minutes reading everything on that page, then move onto CNN or someplace else, it will still count as a "bounce" even though they came for what they wanted, got what they wanted, and then moved onto another website.

So it's not just people visiting your site for a few seconds. They are just as likely to be spending quite a bit of time reading what's on that page.

For example, I visit a site called the Daring Fireball. It's a blog, with the top stories at the top. So I visit, read his articles on the homepage and then ten or fifteen minutes later, move on to another site. This is seen by his analytics as a "bounce."

So keep that in mind.
