I'm looking for any quality articles about Richard Marcus NOT written by Marcus himself.
I was asked to comment on the Savannah technique for a TV current affairs but declined wasn't I well read on the subject (aside from Marcus' books). |

It's pretty clear from the image below that he is a bit of twit....
Are there are any particular examples of twittery? |

Perfect examples of "twittery" can be found in every single thing he writes.

Maaan, I thought his name was "Richard". Today Tonight's reporter kept calling him "Ron" Marcus in last night's segment.

How come the exposures of hustling don’t wear a mask like the masked magician does when he is exposing magic? Would you like Markus more or less if he gave up better information to the public than he does?

I wouldn't like Marcus under any circumstances.
Ultimately, he's a braggart and a blow-hard......and nothing else. Not that he deserves any further comments, but the simple truth is that in order to acquire the information Marcus claims to be in possession of, you have to have the trust of those who have the information such that they'll share it with you. He doesn't have the trust of anybody, so everything he postulates, he makes up. Hustlers will often tip to those they trust, knowing that the information will be shared. This is easily confirmed by the likes of David Maurer and those he spoke to for "The Big Con" and some of his other books. It's also supported by Prus and his "Road Hustler" research. Examples continue to be published, with two recent hard cover publications coming to mind, each brimming with information acquired through the trust enjoyed between the author and his sources. Hustlers may in fact be just as concerned about "legacy" and "posterity" as would any craftsperson be about their craft, and their own unique contribution to that craft. One way to ensure that the record is accurate is to contribute to the record willingly. Marcus has no such "contributors", as a read of his material will quickly expose him as a 100% poseur. Marcus is just a low class entertainer, not a gambling consultant or expert on hustling.......but a common entertainer making up and manifesting the facts he perceives are entertaining. These facts need be nothing more than entertaining though, as accuracy has nothing to do with Marcus's schtick. So, the bottom line as to why you're wasting your time with Marcus is no more complicated than Marcus is a TOTAL FAKE! |

Marcus is the Brian Tudor of gambling stuff. Except Tudor has some skill, but they are both jerks.

As a matter fact, as strange it may seem, people do trust known rats. Not only is that based on my experience but there are many famous cases of it; Bertie Smalls, Sammy the Bull and so on. 99.9 % of criminals are rats. Never work with strangers is my advice.

I'm glad I didn't get involved.
The story was on a rash of Past Posting at Australia casinos in the last few months. A croupier and his room mate were caught scamming around $20,000 from crown casino. They had some old footage of "Ron" Marcus performing the Savannah. |

Then tusted again and became a rat again and big fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite them, and little fleas have lesser fleas, and so ad infinitum.

Gotti trusted him and he ratted... Wasn't that it? You don't get many chances to rat in the mob, it's pretty much a one shot deal.

There have long been, as SWE said; “Self-styled "ex-professionals" have regaled the public with astounding disclosures of their former wiles and wickedness, and have proven a wonderful knowledge of the subject by exhuming some antiquated moss-covered ruses as well known as nursery rhymes, and even these extraordinary revelations are calmly dismissed with the assertion that this or that artifice is employed; in nowise attempting to explain the process or give the detail of the action mentioned. If terrific denunciation of erstwhile associates, and a diatribe on the awful consequences of gambling are a criterion of ability, these purified prodigals must have been very dangerous companions at the card table.”. The way I see it is, so what? They are confidence tricksters, selling a story. The most famous of this sort was Charles Deville Wells. If that is the charge, then I say, good luck to them. Making up stories to regal the public is one thing, as that does no harm, but ratting is quite another thing. I have no time for rats. Sink from the high and generous ideals of youth to the gambler's code of the Bourse: Its business. The only question that remains is, is he a rat?
As for Sammy the Bull rat; Wasn't that it? No!
