Hi, Tom...
I'm wondering if you might share a bit about how you went about/go about assembling your working repertoire. Do you have an act (or acts) that consists of an assumedly limited repertoire that remains virtually unchanged? Or do you instead tailor your performances to the specific situation and circumstances, drawing from an (again, assumedly) ever-increasing repertoire of performance pieces? Is the aggregate of your performances thus far largely one or the other of these two approaches, a hybrid of these approaches, or something else altogether? And, finally, why did you create your act and/or built your repertoire in the manner that you have? As an aside, I'm about 3/4 through my first (non-linear) reading of Vortex, and it has cemented my opinion that your approach to magic and, more specifically, to the teaching of magic puts you in the same admirable camp as Wonder, Carney, Burger and Maven. "Inspired and inspiring" indeed! |

Tricky questions!
It depends a bit on the venue and practicality, unfortunately. But for most gigs I have the same intro piece and final piece, and everything inbeteen is dependent on the locale and how drunk the audience is. If I feel comfortable at the gig, I usually have a spot close to the end where I try out new material. Now and then, I try to do a show in a theater. Either a one-act show (70 minutes) or a 2-act show (2x40 minutes), and then there is room for anything that catch my fancy. So, it is a gradually changing thing. |
