Hi,
question: I have read up on the KEYRF system from L3 systems on how you can program the controls of the fob with Winamp (older versions of Winamp). if I were to buy an AIRCLICK by Griffin or a Mobile edge Express PC Media Remote (MEAPE3), could I reprogram the controls of the remote in Winamp to do what I wanted...perhaps like a fade out or cross fade?? Any chance of doing this... |

Hi,
When I wrote the website that described the KeyRF (back in 2000, ten years ago!), these remotes were not common. But there are a lot now, and many are inexpensive. It's possible to reprogram other remotes to control Winamp. In this case, you'd need to either find a plug-in for Winamp that lets you redefine keystrokes, or use a third-party application that lets you redefine the keystrokes. Keith Rubow sells a remote and provides free software that allows you to redefine the keystrokes. This should do what you want, look for "Rfremote" in his downloads: http://www.krubow.com/Downloads.htm#dlrfremote You should read his instructions, there's a bit of a learning curve in setting up the keys. Hi Jeff,
If I were to buy the KeyRF remote system, I could use WINAMP could I not, and re-program the keystrokes?? In other words with an older Version of Winamp (eg 2.95) the KEY RF system should also work for me?, I might just use that in the long run, |

Yes, any version of Winamp will work with the KeyRF remote. The info on my website is a bit outdated and I should update it soon. The only reason I suggested older versions of Winamp is because a few years ago, the laptops available were much slower and couldn't handle the versions available at the time. But these days, even a cheap netbook is more than fast enough to use the "lite" version of the newest Winamp.
The other advantage of the KeyRF is quality. It's a really solid remote and the receiver has an antenna you can raise to about two feet long, so it gets the signal. All the other remotes have a receiver that plugs into the USB port and is the size of a stick of gum, so are more likely to fade at a distance. Jeff |

Rada,
Download WINAMP and mess with the hotkeys and crossfade areas. The problem with the Mobile edge Express PC Media Remote (MEAPE3) is that we don't know if it can control winamp. Here are my choices for remotes: 1) Wireless Wizardry USB remote control with small receiver (custom). Imagine the remotes in that picture but with a receiver that is about the size of a pack of cards: http://www.theceswebsite.com/products/au......dex.html 2) KeyRF System that Jeff recommends, they are customizable and have a good range 3) Keith Rubows remote, (my backup remotes), customizable and affordable. 4) Griffin Airclick, afforable |
