I have never owned an Iphone, either because I was not elligible for an upgrade, or just didn't have money at the time.. Been a member of AT&T since 2005, so I have decided to take the plunge and stand in line next Thursday morning. I read today that it has twice as much ram as the Ipad!

The standing in line thing is just silly. It's a simple marketing ploy that "not enough to go around" thing.
Your first step will be learning where the capitalization goes. iPhone iPad Like eBay Portland is one of the well covered areas in terms of getting 3G service. That will make life wonderful for you and your iPhone. |

Yeah, why on EARTH would you stand in line for an iPhone (or any other brand new gadget) when a week later you can just walk in and buy one anytime?

You will have a cool attention grabber for a couple months. I don't know about Portland, but around here you'd better queue up the night before if you expect to get one. Good luck.

Personally I don't do lines nor do I buy ANY electronic device when they first hit the market! Why risk getting something that expensive before all the bugs get worked out?!?!?
FWIW, I have a 3G S and am very happy with it! |

I think they should form a circle.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

It's Apple, they are best at forming circles. About a month into having his iPhone Brian will be looking forward to the next version he will purchase, and possibly he will buy something else Apple along the way. It is one giant circle with high customer loyalty.

I'm looking forward to getting it to boost my business on the go. I don't have a computer to work with at home, so everything I do online is through my insurance replacement junk phone. It will be like taking 5 steps forward instead of slugging around on this phone. I have never purchased an Apple product before, so this will be very interesting. As for getting in line, I am starting my vacation on Thursday for about a week. I just wanted to have my new "toy" to take with me.

Maybe I'll get one. Probably not.
I can afford one. I can afford a lot of things because I don't buy a lot of useless stuff. Sure, I bought an iPod. But generally I don't buy a lot. I don't buy a lot of stuff I don't need. I have one banjo. One guitar. One mandolin. One ukulele. One computer. One iPod. One cell phone. One watch. One ring (to rule them all; but only one). My question is for Tom: Tom, you obviously have a sense of self restraint regarding food. On the other hand, you are also obviously an Apple consumer whose sense of constraint means: don't stand in line. But you will get an iPhone G4, I'd bet. So the question is this: what is the difference between a consumerism of the body (getting fat) and a consumerism of the soul (getting Apple stuff)? Could it perhaps be the case that one should be moderate with merchandise as well as with food? Just a thought. I'm in a provocative mood. |

First off the new iPhone won't be 4G, if that is what you meant, Stone. Also, buying tech products may just be a business expense necessary for the expansion of business. It ain't candy in my case. I have a wait and see attitude, simply because I find ATT truly bites in terms of their service. If a 4G Verizon iPhone version 4 came out in fall I'd get that over the one coming out in a few days.
There are indications that something is afoot, and there are indications that there won't be a Verizon iPhone anytime soon. It is as unpredictable as the stock market. |

Just to clarify: the press throughout Germany refers to the new Apple phone as "4G". They mean "4th generation" iPhone rather than 4th generation mobile phone technology. Deutsche Telecom, however, refers to the new Apple product as simply the iPhone 4.
Writing "G4" was a typo. |

I did read a headline about a week ago that Verizon could have it sometime next year! Funny how the different services work in different areas, down in Central Cali Verizon sucks and ATT works well!

Apple's been busy getting everything ready for the release.
They've updated Safari, iTunes, and even OS X itself. Monday, the next step: iOS4 for iPhone 3G/3GS/4 and iOS4 for iPod Touch 2g/3g (small g for "generation"). |

Will be getting my iPhone 4G on Friday as I was able to get a "reservation" at my local Apple store; hopefully there will still be phones available. Only reason for getting one is that my family gave me a iPhone gift card for Father's Day, but sounds like a fun gadget to play with.

Sorry to hear ir, Brian. The time will pass quickly. Do you already have wifi at home? You are going to need it for the new internet service options for the phone.

Pre-ordered on day 1, and received shipment today. Upgraded from the 3G (not the 3GS), so it's nice to have a boost over the hardware that's pushing 2 years old.
The new phone is incredibly well built, all of the hoopla about the high-res screen is deserved. All in all, a very nice upgrade to the phone. If you already like the iPhone, there's more to like. If you don't like it, probably not much can change your mind. I'm diggin' it! Kevin
