There are some great books and DVD's out there. Some of the authors of those books and DVD's are members here.

Richard Nongard and Anthony Jacquin are the first 2 that come to my mind.

If you want an easy to read book to get you going, I recommend "Fun with Hypnosis" by Professor Svengali. It is about $20.00 and the best bang for the buck in my opinion when it comes to books. There are many more out there that should be read as well and I am sure many others here will list their favorites.

As far as DVD's.... Anthony's " Manchurian Approach " and "Reality is Plastic" are very good. Richard's "Street Trance" with John Cerbone is good. In fact, these 3 DVD's are my personal favorites.-Shane

KMPX, I think the real question is what, exactly, are you looking for?

If your question is "How do I do a good show," then Shane has suggested some good books and DVDs.

If your question is "How and why does hypnosis work?" then the answer is a bit different. In my experience most stage hypnotists don't care about that. Some go so far as to deny the reality of hypnosis.

What do you mean by "the real inner workings" of hypnosis?

The truth is, if you put five expert hypnotists in a room, you'll probably get about 15 versions of what they think "the real inner workings" are.

So what, specifically, are you looking for?

I guess I'm confusing people here, I'm looking for learning material that will better able me to put on a good performance. I'm looking to delve more into learning about nlp and such material that may be helpful to me as a performer in impromptute hypnosis and hopefully in the near future stage. reading material should be adequate at the moment as I do have Bill Gladwell's "Stage Hypnosis Made Easy," making its way to my door anyday now.

Hi kmpx18.

Thanks to Shane for recommending my book. If you have that but do not have the supplements to it then email me and I will send them to you.

Books I recommend on the stage side of things are Deeper and Deeper by Jon Chase and the equally well regarded Gide to Stage Hypnosis by Ronning.

Books that will help you get your hypno head around the useful bits of NLP are Training Trances and the original Tranceformations.

Patterns Volume 1 by Bandler and Grinder and derivatives of it will give you more flexibility in your language that will have a pay off in all areas.

For a crystal clear outline of the leading theories of hypnosis check out The Highly Hypnotizable Person by Heap Brown and Oakley.

Hope that helps.

Anthony

Hey KMPX18, I'm a newbie myself with a pile of books and dvd's to work through. My first DVD set was the "Comprehensive Core Skills Hypnosis Course" from Brian David Phillips. I watched them many times over before my first attempt at hypnosis, I feel this DVD set gave me a good base to start from and now I'm watching Anthony's "Manchurian Approach" I read somewhere that when you have no one to practice on then practice on your pillow, sounds silly but has helped me formulate the right words before doing it for real, although suggesting pillow catalepsy isn't much fun LOL

and JonChase - I keep hearing your name used quite a lot so I'll have to invest in some of your products Smile

My suggestion would be to save your money and take an in-person training. Then use books and videos as complementary to what you learn in the training. The same thing goes for NLP.

If you want to be able to "put on a good performance," I'd suggest the following studies:

Acting
Stagecraft
Public speaking and possibly singing/voice lessons
Some form of dancing or martial arts (to gain grace in movements)

I would also suggest the books Instant Rapport by Brooks and The Charisma Quotient by Riggio.

You might also look at the DVD, Skits and Bits by Nongard and Cerbonne.

Also, The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism by McGill is a must, not for just learning how to hypnotize and do skits, but to get a broad knowledge and see what is possible.

And if you really want to become a success at this, you might also take some courses in small business, advertising, promotion, publicity, etc.
