Not bad. But if you are doing this for lay people, drop mentioning Jeff McBride. They don't know who he is. Just say that you spoke to a Shaman, or you read a mystical book or something along those lines. Also, using the "out" is much better than a direct hit, so if they say a card that requires the out, don't make them change it by "adding or subtracting 1". First, it makes it so you can't use the out (although in this case adding one would still require the out), and it seems "fishy". In a couple of weeks I will post a video of my version of Kollosal Killer (yes, you spelled it wrong lol).

Jeezuz!... First... I HATE the off by one thing.. Use it if ya like... I don't... Hence the title... N.O.B.O. No Off By One... Second... I used the Jeff McBride thing as a joke... As this was targeted ENTIRELY at magicians... That is why the tags in it are what they are... So lay people WONT be able to look it up... Third... Adding/subtracting one does NOT make the out needed... Fourth, The "out" has always seemed fishy to me. Just my opinion. And I spelled it the way I did too avoid laymen who found the original and searched for methods...
lol...

My video was not meant to represent any of the factors you pointed out. It was NOT for laymen...Obviously... It was not meant to highlight the off by one concept... Obviously... Etcetera....Etcetera... It was intended to be a humorous take on a done to death plot used by magicians/mentalists. I rather thought from the patter used that that was also...obvious... lol...

Everyone has an opinion. Being clever, witty and using magician-themed patter will not always lead people down the same path.
Many are lead but few are frozen. I thought the references were funny. I do have an awful sense of humor though. KG |

Carbonite,
I knew it only as an explosive. I'd forgotten about the movie reference. I'll have to Han it to you on this one. Turns out my kid knew it as a mining resource in some on-line game; Evercrack, I think is the name. Chemists, of course, would simply know it as dioxidomethylidene. Now where the heck were we? Oh yeah, Dr. Doom's wallet. I don't know whatcha got there Von Doom, looks good to this old guy though . . . KG |

It is a wallet I currently use and it is combined with an index, so I don't need much in the way of equivoque. And the monkey helps a lot... The index is lined with pure carbonite... That is why it functions so well...Well, that and the monkey...

If all of this was so 'obvious' then why didn't anyone get it?

I just got back from my bi-weekly gig. I did KK 12 times. I had to use the out 7 times. The reactions were MUCH stronger with the out than they were with a direct hit. I wish I could explain why, but I can't. Maybe it has something to do with "magician's guilt". I don't know. All I know is that I have performed KK at least once a day everyday for about the last 12 years give or take, and the out gets a stronger response. Maybe it is because I only perform for lay people and not magicians.

Just NOT for me... and apparently quite a few others... Judging from the messages I have gotten. I to perform the effect, (my version) regularly. And for Laymen. They find the "Spirit Monkey" to be a blast. And the denouement to be a real surprise... But I omit the Jeff McBride reference for them. But as this video was intended for magicians... I included it the way I do when I perform for magicians. As it uses all my own products, I am quite happy with its results. I have nothing against those who perform KK in the traditional fashion. I simply find the effect quite overdone. Overly dramatic in most cases. Which is why my presentation tends to skewer those presentations... While still getting the dramatic revelation at the end... Which the standard presentation (in my opinion, before anyone gets their panties in a bunch)tends to lose. So please, perform it however you please. Just allow me to do the same. All I was asking for opinions on was the final revelation (from the sealed compartment of the wallet) and the effectiveness of the detachable index.

By the way, Due to several requests, the handling video and the index used will now be included with all purchases of the wallet used. The Hip Pocket Bombshell, in case ya did not know. No extra charge if ya buy the wallet from me.

I hate videos like this. "Hey whathca think?" Then when people give opinions you didn't want you go off the handle and end up trying to justify your video with some nonsense that only makes sense to you. Its a case of "I want opinions as long as they agree with mine" syndrome.
Its ok to post videos and ask for criticisms, or suggestions etc. But don't get huffy when you read one you don't like. |
