I had shows booked for this Friday and Saturday that got cancelled due to a water leak. It happens. It is one of those things beyond our control. However, I still get such a rush from doing this, it is a little bit of a let down. I like the money, don't get me wrong ( Its not enough I can quit my day job with ), but, for me.....I am a little bit selfish in the fact that it's the rush of making people laugh and feel good. If I can get someone to laugh and lose their woes for just a little bit, to me, that is a reward that can not be bought.
I don't think I ever achieved this "high" when I played music. I actually got to open for a few of the bands I grew up listening to. As cool as those times were, doing an act like this takes my adrenaline to a level those shows never did.... or maybe back then I was too drunk to notice. Regardless, I think I will take mindpunisher's advice and stand out in the street and hypnotize everyone that just passes buy and charge them $100.00 to show them how. Just kidding MP.... I know you hate that and I am not into it myself. -Shane

I'm sorry to hear about your shows. I am sure you will get more gigs soon. On the other hand as the time gets on with my festival shows. I can tell you that 4 walling in bigger venues never go smooth. You get problems from all sides which eat up your time or disrupt your marketing plans which need to happen or you won't get the crowds. And if you're like me you are doing it all on your own. People let you down promises are broken etc etc. Really it goes on to the very last minute. It really is a continuous fight and battle.
Its a different kind of adrenalin at this stage not the pleasant kind. I hate this part of the process. Until there are enough bums on seats to make it financally viable its a real strain. And that doesn't usually happen until a few days before the event! To be honest at this point I can't wait till its over. Where is that sleep induction mp3? |

I got more booked for the next two weeks. I just love performing on this level.
You are correct, it is all me, myself and I. I have been burned by too many people I trusted that couldn't get the job done or made promises outside of a certain parameter. This way, if there is a mistake, it is on my shoulders and mine alone. Subconsciously, I think that is one thing that drew me to this art. I can do this on my own. No relying on a drummer that shows up part time, a singer that is trying to shag his band mates girls, another guitar player that has his own gear one week and has to borrow yours the next. Just me, my PA and my trusty Ford truck. I feel like a cowboy hypnotist. I was actually going to do the redneck/hypnotist angle, but, how many times can you get people to hump imaginary sheep and cousins and it still be funny? Hmmm... think I just came up with something new.-Shane
