Practicing today I dropped my heavy 5 1/2 inch (outer diameter) ring and it broke. Now I have a k** ring with a tiny g**.
I loved that Ring. It was so perfect for my Ring and Rope routine. Has anyone had any luck fixing this with epoxy or would I have to have it welded and probably re-chromed (probably out of my price range). I'm sure it would be easier to replace than to fix but I get attached to my toys. Realistically though I'd like to know if any one knows of a source for this size ring. I've been told It might have been a Bumper Ring from a set of Linking Rings. Naturally I have other sized Rings I can use but for me this was the gold standard. - Mary Mowder |

Mary,
I would stay away from the epoxy route. However, what you could do is perhaps a show in trade for a bike shop that does chrome for Harleys. It could bring you some business AND get your ring repaired. Just a thought. Ahimsa, Vlad PS: You might also want to pick up Chained from Ickle Pickle Magic. The included ring is VERY sturdy. You could probably drop the ring from the very top of the Petronas Towers and not even dent it |

Take it to a bumper repair show for automobils. See if they will try to fix it or have any suggestions. They can also re-chrome it for you.
Don't think Bumper made close-up rings, if they had, dropping them would not have caused the welf to fail. Maybe they are Fun Inc. Search the wholesale sites like, Fun Inc., Loftus Inc. aks Empire Magic, D.Robbins aka E-Z Magic, Murphy Magic, Magic City, etc. |

Thanks Vlad,
Sounds like an interesting way to go and I never would have thought of that. How big is the Chained Ring? The size was not apparent on the Ickle Pickel site. I have some very sturdy Harness Rings but they are around 3+1/2" Thank you wmhegbil, I think my ring was from a set of Linking Rings. I got it at an auction. 5+1/2 inches is large for Ring and Rope but I use it for Stand-Up Shows. I checked those sites and some 5" Linking Rings are listed but of course I can't tell how heavy they are. Does anyone know, are Rings measured by the outside or the inside dimensions? - Mary Mowder |

It drives me crazy to know a colleague needs a specific prop with that "right" feel and I am at a loss on how else I can help. As a musician I understand as well the "feel" of something in that one bonds with it. I have a very large cutting edge electronic music studio. I can do any genre of music and create incredible atmospheres for any need. But, there is a specific keyboard that I play that just has this feel that is SO perfect to me. The action on this keyboard is excellent and to lose it would make me quite distressed. If I can come up with any other ideas, I will gladly pass them along. Thanks for your kind words regarding my "show for repair" idea. Ahimsa, Vlad |

I have two sets of Ninja Rings but from what I've heard on the Café they would be very hard to replace and I need them to work as Linking rings. I've noticed that practicing with only two causes a slight color change due to wear so I don't want to differentiate my Ninjas. I do have a slightly heavier single ring that size.
Thanks Vlad, - Mary Mowder |

This type of accident is the source for very creative thoughts. Just think: OK how do I get around this problem? What do I do with this? what did other people do? How can I use this limitation as a strength by doing more natural smarter moves? Since I can no longer do this, what could I do instead as a replacement? What about introducing a rope ring or a golden chain ring as replacement: how would that possibly improve on the original effect? ...

Thanks Glenn.
The second one looks interesting. I'm hopeful I have found a source for a new ring but I'm seeing that a back-up wouldn't hurt. The weight is important to me. I still may fix the old one. Lawrence, I did a show this morning with that Ring and Rope Routine and I creatively used another Ring (OK not that creative). Since I've been developing this routine for several years that's as creative as I'm apt to get. I get where you're coming from though. My thanks to you all. - Mary |

Mary, If you have a GOOD hardware store in your area check there for harness rings. They are heavy, welded, chrome or nickel plated and not very expensive. You might also try a tack shop if there are horse enthusiasts near by.

Totally off this topic, but your link for the plastic rings is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. Thanks. |
