A sort of counter balance to another rather silly thread on a similiar topic.
Any suggestions ?

Yes.
Making the Statue of Liberty vanish, then re-appear. While performing at a garden party in London. Producing a top hat from a live rabbit. The set-up is rather 'challenging'. Performing a paddle routine with a rubber band. On a serious note, I normally would try to help others on the Café (no matter how 'different' the request is), as perhaps the initial thread title / description may not fully reflect what the person is trying to say / ask. Perhaps the responses, from gentle to harsh may also help that person on their journey. Respectfully, Charlie |

The trick that makes most amateurs look like amateurs (including me) is the Zombie or the floaing table. Some people can make you believe these things are really floating, others look like they're moving them around with a stick.

There are only a few people in this world who have successfully mastered "The Bommerang Rubber Band Trick". Chris Kenner has a small pamphlet out on it, but unfortunetly Chris's method is weak.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhSMJ4wRamc This guy also uses the Chris Kenner, Dan Harlan method. I use the Don Cox method which will give you at least twice the range. HA HA HA

For me it's those silly clever cuts that people do with cards that serve no real purpose, but look really hard to do.

Qwen,
Those silly clever cuts are great If you have an entertaining act to go with it, (and they are really hard to do correctly). If you don't look like a "Magician" (as I do not) they can really establish credibility fast. I have to admit I know what you mean though, Flourishes without contact or context look more shy geek showoff than Pro. I gotta go with Bad Cups and Balls or even Good Cups and Balls done in inappropriate situations. - Mary Mowder Posted: Jul 23, 2010 3:36am Oh yea, Three Fly (any version) without eye contact all in one breath. Sorry I misspelled your name Owen. - Mary Mowder |

Turning over a double with little or no extra movements, then turning over the single "MAGICALLY changed card," and flicking it a gazillion times, then spinning it (of course messing up the first time), flicking it a few more gazillions times, all to prove it was a single card the entire time.

Murphy's Law
Putting the insert in backwards on your Fraidy Cat Rabbit so when you go to show the rabbit black in the beginning you really open the door and show your finale (the back side of the rabbit). Sometimes the simple effects can be screwed up if not setup correctly.

A card trick that involves the mercury card fold. I've seen this done poorly many times.
