If you want to look pro, I'm quite convinced that the top 10 things are not tricks at all. I don't know if these are among the "top" 10 but I'll add a few to get us started:

1. The "between-the-tricks" parts to your performance: What you say and do when you're not doing a trick.

2. What you're wearing: Are you wearing a baggy one-size-fits-all suit? Do your socks match? Remember a belt? Are your shoes still dirty from that kid's show at the petting zoo?

3. Hygiene: Are your hands clean and manicured? Your hair? Face recently shaved? How's your breath?

4. Being able to think on your feet. I had a spectator pocket about 10 cards off the top of my deck when I was not looking a while back. What would you do?

5. Stop pattering. If you were performing for David Letterman, would he say, "I love the patter. That's my favorite part. The patter."

Don't forget to actually listen to what your audience is saying - engage with them.

Adding to the previous post - Leave them 'hungry' for more, not magic overdosed.

Are you having fun?

This encompasses many of the items mentioned above (e.g., it's difficult to have fun when someone's deliberately sabotaged your effect, and you don't know how to recover), but it goes beyond that. You can be well-practiced, well-groomed, quick on your feet, and humble, all while projecting an air of ennui.

While it may not be certain that if you're having fun your audience will, too (notwithstanding the usual platitude in that regard), it's all but certain that if you're not, they won't be.

Know your craft so you can be relaxed and comfortable. Then you can be a pro, not just look like one. Smile

What does your act look like coming in the door? There is nothing that screams amateur like a traveling garage sale. Pro performers have the act in proper cases...road cases even. Not in cardboard boxes, plastic grocery bags or worse yet coming in the door one piece at a time.
I know a performer who claims to be a pro, he showed me his trailer and it looked like it was loaded with a shovel! Yeah, real pro looking!

Steve

Why not? My closer is a Smash & Stab routine. The "encore" is fire-eating. The audience loves it. Smile

After the show be approachable. Allow yourself time after your show to mingle for a few minutes with the guests, don't just pack it up and run out the door.

#? Learn to improvise....

No one knows when a trick goes bad, find an out or use the situation as a call back in your routine.

#? Be a human being ... that does supernatural things. Even Greek Gods showed human emotion.

#? Even if you have done the trick thousands of times ...ACT like it is the first time you have seen it... your audience will take the journey with you.

Be able to speak intelligently about what you're doing, about life, and about what's going on in the world and other current events. The majority of folks think that magicians are uneducated and lack social skills. Guess what...they're right!

Nothing screams hack more than a lack of good, solid communication skills while on the job.
