What I mean't to say is that you could not do D.C.'s version of Dream of Aces for a closeup audience, and I do think that DC's version requires special cards.
Macdonal's aces you could do for a close-up audience. Hope that clarifies it.

How about doing reversed MacDonald's Aces? So instead of making the aces gone from the piles, we actually produce ace cards in each pile. Then the last pile, which at the beginning of the trick was shown for having four aces, now only has random cards?
Will it create a strong effect? But then, we might need to have 5 piles instead of 4.

I really hate when people compare McDonald's Aces to the routine that DC did on TV. Different effect. In Mac Aces the aces change to other cards, every pile still has 4 cards. In DC's routine, the aces VANISH and there are only 3 cards in each pile. Also, he does not telegraph the aces in the leader pile. The aces appear UNDER the ace of spades aren't seen until they're revealed. IMO, his version is much prettier than most assemblies.

It was Copperfield's Grandpa's Aces that took me from my on again, off again relationship with magic to becoming a active student of sleight of hand! I agree Pep, it's by far the prettiest IMO as well!

I'm treading a thin line, here, but Dream of Aces, done with the recommended music is very emotional. The ladies were always FLOORED. It had the same effect as Grandpa's Aces. If that's the type of effect you're LOOKING for, well...see my post above.
I WILL say, any effect that is licensed to David Copperfield, that he or his staff find on the market? It WILL be pulled. Zero tolerance. His contract with them is very specific. Just ask Andrew Mayne. Doug |

That must have been what happened when they told me their were manufacturing problems! The light goes on! Thanks for solving the mystery for me after all these years!
I went on to purchase Dream of Aces. Anyway, you you happen to know the name of that dramatic piece of music Copperfield used for Grandpas Aces? I always loved that melody, but never could figure out the name of it.

Don't know the name, right off, but it's on the Dream Of Aces DVD. I had that set for a while, until it, too, was lost. What I did was looked it up on LimeWire and downloaded it. I used it quite a few times. My friend's wife, actually had tears in her eyes. No joke.
Some day, I'll get that back, too. Doug |

Doug Arden...thank you!
Wow...that brings it all back! That's the one they give you on "Dream Of Aces"! It really brings an emotional element to the effect. I used my own version of the patter Camirand Academy gives you. It makes it personal. If you do this, and use this music, form yourself a personal story, an emotional one...man, to see someone in tears, after you've just done a magic trick, transcends astonishment. I will get that whole DVD and card set again. It is really one of a kind. And I do thank Camirand for making this available. I've gone on this too long, folks (I have that tendency). Good luck! I bought dream of aces years ago, but I absolutely do not recall getting any music with it, either in the form of a cassette or a CD.. My old memory must be failing pretty bad!

Ya know, Daff', I don't know if it's just mentioned (or I downloaded it from LimeWire, after reading in in the instructions...), or I was informed here in the Café. I might be wrong. See the above link for the music. Make a CD (or mp3) of that, and as I understand it, it is not exclusive to D.C., so I believe you are free to use it in your act.
I hope this helps! |

At that time, you could still purchase the "Cousins" movie soundtrack CD, and that's what I did. I don't know if it's still available in CD. You could perhaps do what Dougini suggested with the Mp3. You're right, Pepka. I hope I wasn't misunderstood. Copying D.C.'s act is just plain wrong. I liked the music, and it fit the Dream of Aces routine, in timing and pace.
I'm sure I could find another piece of music. And I will. Thank you for making me aware. Respectfully, Doug |

John Guastaferro has a 4 Ace routine called "Famous Aces" on his Second Storm DVD. It's where the Aces vanish leaving only 3 cards in each pile and end up joining the Ace of Spades inside the card box.
