Hey Guys and Gals!
I am very excited to hear that the new and improved version of Magigadget's Instant Radio in now IN STOCK! They are testing the lot and packaging the units for shipping. Included in the shipment that passed customs is their lot of the new Electro-Magic Squeeker. I think I'll start a new thread for that product since they are two separate effects. What improvements does version 2 have, you ask? It turns on faster (plays in a heartbeat – instantly on activation.), it plays much louder (over 200%), it's slimmer, it's clearer, it has more reliable fast scanning, and it's channel selectable Check it out - http://www.magigadgets.com/InstantRadio.html I have the original Instant Radio and I can't wait to get the new version! I'll provide this forum with a review as soon as I receive and play with mine.

Sounds great, although I like the original just fine. I've been using it with kids to start an AC routine using a blank deck. I call it an "imagination deck," that brings to life whatever you draw on it. As an example, I draw a radio on a card, then do the Instant Radio bit when the child presses the button. Then the child draws their favorite animal on another blank card, and we go into an AC routine as we try to teach the animal tricks (jumping/rising, flying with a Hot Shot Cut, etc), ending with magically putting the animal back in its "crate" (Mystery Box). The Instant Radio phase adds a lot, and is a real attention getter.
Sounds as though the improvements in version 2 hit all the right boxes.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.

I bought v1 just before the release of v2...
to be honest, it didn't make me sing for joy. I guess I feel a little let down when a "new version" comes out right after I buy one. They should have notified potential buyers... I would have gladly paid a little more or just waited. Now, every time I hear how great the new one is, it will just sting a little more. I am sure this is a great product though. Regards, Sean |

Hey Waters - Contact Shahid (via Magigadgets email) and let him know. I've found him to be very personable and understanding. Right now he's busy getting the version 2 and squeeker orders tested and out the door. So he may not be able to respond as quickly but be patient ... he will respond. You won't be sorry.

I am sorry. I am not familiar with Am-INK. Is there a link to which I can visit and see the Am-INK product?

I spent a little time inspecting the contents and taking it for a test drive. So what did I find? The radio device itself is slimmer allowing me to easily conceal the radio device in more places. In addition to the on/off switch and the volume dial it contains buttons that allow you to find different radio frequencies. Now you can choose your desired frequency before your performance and the device will remember. A reset button enables the device to auto-scan for another strong signal. Activation of the radio signal is instant. I found the switch to be quieter than before. If you have version 1 of the Instant Radio then you will know what I mean. If not ... then trust me. The radio frequency is clearer (depending on the frequency and your location) Lastly, I also found that the construction of the device and it components to be very sound. I can honestly tell you that I can (and have) wear it all day - while performing, driving, eating, etc ... showering? (nah) I bought the first Instant Radio from MagiGadgets about a year ago and since then I have been working with it, tweeking it, and creating unique ways to wear it. I have found ways to wear it with and without a jacket, in long sleeves and out (and yes ... while eating green eggs and ham). This is one effect that will NOT find its way into my "magic auction" box. I have soooo many routines that will go soooo well with this device. - A drawn radio comes to life - Catching radio waves - Psychic radio (just a few of my ideas) Shahid of MagiGadgets has done it again with Instant Radio version 2. This effect is certainly money well spent. Check it out at - http://www.magigadgets.com/InstantRadio.html - you will not be sorry. Posted: Aug 1, 2010 8:01pm I used my IRv2 in performance last night (Jul 31) at a restaurant Open Wand (like an open mic but for magicians - we have it once a month here in Bethesda, MD). Everyone loved it! It was loud enough to hear from stage (even with the other noise at the bar). Then I went into the audience to let them hear. I was able to scan and set a frequency that was strong enough and had appropriate music playing. I am ready to start using it in most, if not all, of my performances (two shows this week). I can't wait to start using the EM-S in my performances!

Am I correct in thinking that these are two separate purchases (The radio and the squeeker)?
Or can they be purchased as one model with less to carry/load in walkabout? bobser

Hi Bobser,
This is Shahid Malik from Magigadgets.com. Yes. They are 2 seperate products - although with just a little work/ingenuity you could actually adapt and quite possibly integrate them. If you do decide to purchase - I could advise you. No problem. We've actually got 2 new Demo Videos online now - you may be interested in... http://www.magigadgets.com/Squeeker.html http://www.magigadgets.com/InstantRadio.html If you need any further info, please feel free to email me directly: info@magigadgets.com or shahid@shahidmalik.co.uk Hope this helps. Kind Regards, Shahid Malik. http://www.magigadgets.com http://www.shahidmalik.co.uk info@magigadgets.com |

Thanks Shahid,
I actually purchased the squeeker version immediately after I posted as I was in hurry to set off to 'The Fringe'! Actually integration (which I'd be happy to pay for rather than fiddle about with) sounds quite cool to me, however I'm sure I'll have fun with the squeeky version and possibly get back to you regarding the other. Many thanks, Bob

I'm actually very pleased with this purchase. The design/layout of the second version is similar to the original, however the improvements are obvious. The volume is much greater (my biggest complaint about the original version) and the scan works great. The documentation is very nicely laid out making it easy to set up. I recommend this.

Seriously thinking of getting the Squeeker, but I'm not at all too sure about the radio. I don't know where the speaker for the radio goes on ones person, but it would seem to me that it would be very easy for a spectator to "hear" and discern where the sound is coming from. However, seeing that a squeaker is a higher pitched sound it may not be as easy. I'm sure we've all heard a cell phone go off and think that its yours, or perhaps heard a small chime/bell on a T.V. and you realize that its very hard to tell where the sound is originating from. But, a radio....uh-uh, I don't think so. It would seem like a dead give away in my opinion. Then again, I'll be more than happy to be corrected by those that own Instant Radio (not the inventor as that would obviously be a tad bias).

Gaffed,,,,The radio is only played for maybe 5 seconds at a time so they will never figure out where the sound is actually coming from.
I,ve had music playing from sharpies, soda cans, forks, THEIR cell phones etc etc and it always gets a killer reaction. |

For some reason the idea of convincing someone that their cell phone can receive radio signals really cracks me up! lol Yes, I can see now that you wouldn't necessarily have the radio on for more than few seconds so this is sounding (no pun intended) more and more interesting.

I just started usig this and it is fantastic. I hooked this AND the squeeker up in a busker vest with two topits, easy on and off. I go into the topit from the outside pocket to turn them on and I am set.
I have been using it in my cups and balls routine. I use the wand as an antennae. No one ever asks to open my vest as it sems that the sound really comes from the cups. If you want to use this on stage though, you need to think of a way to mike the speaker. This is a fantastic product!! James

I live in Taiwan and coats are too hot. I wear a buskers vest and it is open.
You could also hide it under your shirt or even in your pocket. It's actually small compared to the old models. James Quote: On 2010-08-25 08:31, effectbuilder wrote:

On 2010-08-25 08:31, effectbuilder wrote: Hi Tim, If you read my review regarding Electro-Magic Squeeker here on Latest and Greatest, it's the same unit as Instant Radio 2, I think I've covered almost everything. I'll post it here too....... This is an absolutely brilliant piece of kit and very easy to use. A few points to answer some of the questions posted on here...... Size - The unit is a little larger than 3 AAA batteries, so think about a pack of 10 cigarettes before the days of king size cigs, so takes up very little pocket space. Set up time - Once you've set up the switch to the correct sensitivity to suit you (a one time job which I got first time) it takes less than 20 seconds to move from jacket to jacket. There is no stitching of clothing and the switch unit uses an excellent idea for its set up making everything a breeze. Basically pop this into your pocket, attach the speaker (the power of Velcro wink wink!) to where you want the sound to come from, switch it on, bingo you're done. To activate the unit - This is the part I hated with this type of effect, not anymore. No toe switch, no wires running down your leg and most important of all, no setting this off by accident. The switch is a stroke of genius and is located just where you need it. It also has a sensitivity switch so you can control how easy (or not) you want to make the noise. All in all this lifts this device way above other types of switch related units. What to wear - You do not need to be wearing a jacket to do this, as this unit is so small it just slips into your pocket and off you go. The squeak comes from a speaker and not the battery unit so just attach the speaker to your short sleeve if wearing a t shirt, or just pop the speaker into your pocket. You can also wear the speaker around your neck on a chain or a leather necklace and the speaker sits under your shirt. If wearing a jacket you just attach the speaker to your sleeve by the wrist, you can now pull your sleeves back without exposing the gimmick, genius! Speaker size - The speaker is about the size of a silver dollar and about two silver dollars thick so this makes it really easy to either attach it to your clothing or to wear it around your neck without any tell tell bulges! Is it loud enough to be heard in the real world - Yes. The unit is fitted with a volume control, if you just have everything popped into your pocket then you may need to have the volume on full, if attaching it to your sleeve you will probably need to turn the volume down. If working in a noisy environment just adjust the volume to suit. The teenager test - OK a couple of points, yes I've used this in the real world and in both quiet and very noisy venues. The first time I set this up to test it and rehearse this I gave it the dreaded 'teenager test' I showed this to my twin daughters, this was the ultimate test!! I tested it with a jacket on, in a tee shirt and with the speaker in different locations on me, they didn't have a clue. The action of squeezing something i.e. a sponge ball with the speaker in different places made no difference to what they thought, that the sound really was coming from whatever I was squeezing. Does the sound that comes from the unit match the supplied squeaker - Yes it's spot on, you obviously have to practice squeezing the squeaker to get some sort of uniformity, but remember, they never hear both at the same time so you don't have to worry too much. Do the batteries come with the unit - No, but as this unit uses AAA batteries this is not a problem. Also, don't use this with cheap batteries, if they leak you will probably screw up the unit, and good batteries will make the unit sound better and last longer. Instructions - The instructions are superb, they tell you everything you need to know to get you going. Basically this great effect comes with a very detailed booklet with superb photos and excellent illustrations, this really is top notch. The booklet details just about everything you will need to know plus loads of effects and ideas and alternative setups etc, if only all magic dealers put this sort of work into their products. Price - Very reasonable. I purchased both the Instant Radio 2 and Squeeker for £64.00 plus p&p, excellent value for money. Delivery and service - I emailed Shahid Malik an enquiry about using both the Squeeker and Instant Radio at the same time (not literary the same time but having both set up at the same time) the following morning I had a phone call from Shahid and he answered all of my questions. I put in my order and it arrived two days later. Top quality service! Oh and yes you can use both at the same time! To sum up - This is one of my best purchases I've made in magic, for quality and value this is outstanding. Many years ago I bought an effect called 'Bottled Sound' (you blow a whistle into a bottle and cork it, when you remove the cork you hear the whistle), this entailed a couple of penny whistles and a set up of tubing and a bulb which you had to secretly press, you also had to wear a jacket. The effect was great but a real pain to set up, I can now do this effect with ease using Squeeker. The biggest problem I can see with Squeeker is not to over use it, what a great position to be in. This is not an adapted product, it has been built from the ground up and made by a professional who understands the needs of the performer. The price is excellent, I would imagine that these units aren't cheap to make and I can see that an auful lot of investment has been put into this product. I give this product my highest recommendation. Gary Jones.
