If I place the switch so far into my a**p*t that it's alsmost cutting into my skin, I can get it to work. (Still rarely picks up a station though). I suppose not every effect suits every performer and for me, this takes up pocket space which I need at performances, plus I do find it really uncomfortable to wear. It also looks like I am doing the Birdie Dance when activating it! (It take some welly to press the switch) I really think that having arms like matchsticks is the problem here. Plus I think there is some exagerrations/untruths in Shahid's advertising (always picks up a signal). I know that ANY kind of noise, even static, is effectve to a specatator, but at least state in the advert that it is not guarannteed to pick up a radio station. The advertising is rather misleading here. Again, many thanks for your help Gary, I don't think this effect is for me at all. |

Having used to Squeeker at a previous gig and getting a great response I thought I'd give Instant Radio a go. After loads of rehearsing and shopping around for other props for the routine I was very disappointed that there was no reception at the venue I was performing in and, at the last minute had to abandon the effect. I guess the effect can't be blamed for the lack of reception but what I was surprised about was that I didn't even get static. Static coming from an expected object would have worked but all I got was dead silence.
I'm going to try this effect once more but if it lets me down again I'm going to have to drop it for good. It's not that it's not a great trick but I need effects that are reliable and, in the relatively stressful performing environments I work in (turn up, set up backstage and you're on), I need to ensure that I'm not having to rewrite my set at the last minute. If anyone has any tips (it seems the other threads have been taken over by complaints about one vendor) that would be greatly appreciated. |

Did anybody came up with a reliable solution to fix the ""glue"" problem?
It's the only issue I have with this fantastic product. |

Far too unreliable to be used and for me, a complete waste of time and money. There are so many positive comments regarding this, it can only be one of two things: 1) People are being rather dishonest about their unit. 2) I assume yours was bought recently, as mine was, which must mean that the quality control has slipped somewhat and in the rush to mass produce them, the testing has gone out of the window. I wouldn't mind if I knew what I was getting but claims on the website that it will "tune in to all local FM stations" and "never let you down" could surely be a case for the Trades Descriptions Act? |

If you email Shahid he will sort you out. If you just want to post about it but do nothing you obviously enjoy "your pain."
I live in Taiwan, I can get a signal in a tunnel on the highspeed bullet train. My unit had a faulty switch, I emailed Shahid, he sorted me out quickly. Manufacturing is not perfect. If you have problem you should email the maker and get it taken care of. Posting about "What should be" is ridiculous. Take action Man! James Quote: On 2010-10-05 11:04, Lord Freddie wrote:

I just take it you guys can't take opinions contrary to your own.
I have emailed Shahid and tried calling. It seems unless you don't say Instant Radio is the best thing since sliced bread you get flamed down. |

The Great Al Cohen, I believe invented the original version back in the 70's. He tagged it "AM I.N.K." or 'Everything's a Radio', as I remember, and hawked then at the conventions. Al is a super pitchman and a super guy.
Had great fun with this. The speaker was in the radio and I hung it around my neck on a string under my shirt. I loved the switch, it hooked to your belt and was activated by pressure from your st_ _ _ ch and worked very well. I didn't care for the radio itsself much but it was the latest technology at the time (transistor with no scan). I would show a news article I had that told about how some people have the capabilty to receive radio transmissions through the fillngs in their teeth when in contact with aluminum foil and I proceeded to illustrate. You can sell Radio Pens for $10 then run like hell. WC Fields would have loved this. Lots of uses. This latest version, "Instant Radio 2", is actually priced lower and much more improved and verstile. I am going to order mine ASAP. Sounds like a winner!
There was a time I had the blues,
the reason was I had no shoes. Until I met upon the street a man who had no feet. |

I just really wanted this to work and be good because when it does work, it's a fantastic effect, no doubt about that, just a little disappointed with the quality and the method of activation. It's good to have balanced opinions on things, I believe, and when reading a review I like to know the pros and cons. Many reviews of this item state the pros but not the cons, which I have discovered to my expense. The reason why I am so unhappy is that I was hoping this would be something I could use in my act and some of the claims in the advertising are misleading. |

Freddie,
I respect your opinion until you say I am lying. No one has flamed you. Not even a little. This is a discussion. You say you saw Shahid respond in another forum, and you emailed him BEFORE you bought Instant Radio. How about email him NOW? Personally I don't like it when people say I am lying, I think others feel the same. James Quote: On 2010-10-06 01:44, Lord Freddie wrote:

Just send yours back and move on mate, this thread is now turning the wrong way! Hi Gary, I hope by this you don't mean it's turning the wrong way because some of the comments made towards the effect weren't all positive. |

Magicray69 mentioned the original effect, AM Ink, created by Al Cohen, which brings back memories of a performance I witnessed where Al performed the effect using an absolutely BRILLIANT premise.
Al's specific idea is not mine to share, and I mention it only to suggest that making music come from an object simply "because it can" is far from the most entertaining use of this type of device. Al asked himself the question, "Why would something play music?" and he came up with an incredibly entertaining answer. Creating an entertaining "outward motivation" for using this device, or for using any magic product for that matter, is what can make an effect something that an audience will remember long after you perform it. Heck, I still remember Al's performance 35 years after I witnessed it! |

This effect is obviously suited to some and not others, that will always be the case, but if there is to be any mud slinging, then this should be done privately between the parties involved. All constructive comments whether good, or not so good, should be welcomed, any more than that then it can often become messy, especially on open forums. Often no harm is meant, but due to the nature of forums things can and do get taken the wrong way. Hope this makes sense. Regards, Gary Jones.

There's too many people on the net (and I'm not saying anyone on this thread has done this, as I don't feel they have) that either seem to exist to bash other people. There's even one guy on this forum who makes it his life's work to hound people if they don't like an effect that he does. As an update to my previous post, I contacted Shahid who was extremely helpful, in fact I don't think he could have been more so. He suggested I just got extremely unlucky and that this is a very rare case, that I should test the unit more and if I have any further issues to contact him again for a replacement. I can't ask for more than that. It is of course the most sensible course of action to contact the creator or supplier but I find posting on forums very beneficial, to hear the experiences of others. They often have tips that even the creator might not be aware of, or can confirm if an issue I'm experiencing is isolated. |
