What type of effects would you use a Mene Tekel deck for?

With the whole matched pairs red-back/blue-back concept......there're a thousand directions you can take.
Simplest: Show spec stack of about 20 cards, face up.....he picks any card. You reach into your jacket (while holding that card) and come out with a different-backed card.....the cards match!
His face isn't really this long in-person!

Is that what the Mene-Tekel is? ***, I just reinvented it :/
I came up with a nice ACAAN routine for it based on an idea from Petty & Penn's "Roughed" DVD. I guess I'll get an MT deck and try it with that rather then the one I made. If ti works I suppose I can just release the routine as a "freebie"...

Couldn't you make 2 sevngali's with 2 decks, if one was a OOF deck? A few bucks more in parts costs, I realize...

Having read this thread I am now totally confused
My ACAAN deck is matching r/b pairs, back to back, R&S. Is that a modern MT deck or not? Does it have other names?

Bought one and answered my question.
An interesting gadget, but only distantly related to my deck

I had the pleasure of meeting and attending kranzo's lecture at the convention in myrtle beach SC. he talked about the mene tekel a good bit and I purchases his CD and I'M completly satisfied with all that he taught me on that CD. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn effects with that deck of cards. Kranzo is the man!!!!!!

This is really confusing.
What would be the difference between a Pop-eyed popper deck and a Mirage Deck? They appear to be made up the same to me?

PEP and Mirage both have the R&S principle. The PEP doesn't have the L&S principle, while the Mirage does. I love the PEP, personally.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Thanks MueCard for a reference I needed. It can be so hard tracking down credits.

Someone asked what affects were possible with Mene Tekel deck?
All of them. :) It would probably be easier to answer "what tricks can't you do with the deck?" Here's an example of one of my favorite effects with the deck http://kranzomagic.myshopify.com/collect......velation

The classic chapter in the Hugard Encyclopedia has really whet my appetite, and I have ordered several M-T decks from Shawn Evans and eagerly await delivery. I am back to card magic after over 30 years, and in childhood I didn't even know about this deck, so to me it isn't old-fashioned but rather something very new and, I suspect, under-appreciated. Moreover, the fact that it is not as widely known to the lay folk like the Svengali and the stripper is a GOOD thing in magic, isn't it?

This little known (?) book changed my whole direction and creativity with card effects:
THE SELF-CONTAINED CARD DELIVERY SYSTEM- MENE TEKEL MAGIC MAXIMIZED The title perfectly describes one of the best applications of a MT deck. Another great application is the psuedo-copy principle described in the book. IMHO, the book's Yin & Yang Premonition trick may be the best overall improvement on the Premonition Effect using a MT deck. |
