Greetings Magician Friends,
I am wondering if there are any DVDs in the market which guides and teaches you how to build illusions. Books and blueprints are harder to digest and produce.
Magic is the residue of pre-design fantasies.

Doesn't Rand Woodbury have some DVDs about illusion building and about building steps and bases. You should look into those.

Rand Woodbury has ILLUSION WORKS 1 & 2 on "Steps & Bases" and "Special Secrets". He also has ILLUSION WORKS 3 & 4 on "Tricks of the Trade" and "Professional Illusion Builders". I have both and they are great.

Yup, those are they. Thanks Chuckn. I have them as well but only remember watching the steps and bases one, which is excellent.

I highly recommend David Seebach's book "So You Want to be an Illusionist" before you even consider building anything. The book covers the best choices for your first illusion.
The book is available directly from David or from Abbott's Magic. Research before you do anything ... Steve |

To summarize, these are the illusion building DVDs in the market.
2. Illusion Works - Volumes 1 & 2 by Rand Woodbury http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hyn2_rzkewI 2. Illusion Works Volumes 3 & 4 by Rand Woodbury http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8-04Kk75fo I believe Mark Wilson DVDs are only showing you the secrets rather then building. Am I right? http://www.markwilsonmagic.com/illusionsCol.htm Dennis Loomis has also book plans only. http://hamiltonholtinc.stores.yahoo.net/denloomdolho.html couldn't find David Seebach's book "So You Want to be an Illusionist." Only managed to see some of these plans at Abott. http://www.abbottmagic.com/Abbott-Plans_c42.htm

Oops .. the lecture David presents is called "So You Want to be an Illusionist." The book that accompanies the book is called "Subject: Illusions."
All I remember is an old book called "Illusion Show Know-How" or something like that, when I was first starting out. I wish I had David's book .. the years of knowledge within the pages are priceless. It would have saved me a lot of time and money spent on less practical props. Heck, I still have some sitting in the basement ... Steve |

I would love to produce some video/interactive cd/dvd for illusion design if anybody out there has thought of going this direction. I think its a big market that has been waiting for technology to step up. Would be great to interatively teach the what to do's and not to do's of illusion design. Bad vs good bases. How to accomplish a person for person switch. The beginnings of an illusion to the final piece. What I would love to see the most is how a professional designer begins to create an illusion in his mind all the way to the finished project. There are so many illusions out there that have made me ask "how in the heck did you even begin to think of this"!
I have the Woodbury DVD's and they were 100% helpful in building steps at one time. Learned some neat tricks on bases as well. Highly recommended. I think the big problem today is you put out dvds like this, they end up on youtube. Dennis....that is awesome! |

Authorized builders are licensed. Not just anyone can build illusions. Look at the top of this forum, there is a list of books with illusion building plans. Those you can build. I take it you have a complete woodworking shop and metal shop along with the knowledge and experience of each craft. Illusion building is nothing like Dan Harlan's Tarbell small prop ideas. |

Why would he need a woodworking shop for this trick?
This is backstage meets victory cartons. Do you have the Mark Wilson build your own illusions tapes? |

I was going to say I think there are some ideas better than this (and similar in method) in Mark Wilson 1 & 2.
