For me it's a personal choice, Alice's Revenge is so much more versatile than Parade of Kings, IMO of course. As for age, well I'm no spring chicken, I purchased Parade of Kings in the late 70s from Supreme Magic!!
Horses for courses! Gary Jones.

I think if I spent a few minutes, I could figure out a way to use the "Alice's Revenge" props for the "Parade of Kings" effect. However, as Cameron points out, the effects are completely different, so comparing them is like comparing lightning to a lightning bug. Each trick has a method optimized for the effect it creates (though, as I said above, I think the POK is actually a Marlo trick).
Of all the tricks, I have marketed, "Alice's Revenge" has had the best response: the best reviews, the most sales and the best ideas for variations -- and many recommendations from working pros. In the future, I will be releasing,a full-deck version, "The Bammo Oblivion Deck." ANY card thought of becomes a double-blank card. I don't need to know the card. There is no restriction on the card -- it can be any card and it can be a different card every time. There is no forcing. As with Alice, the other three mates are in the deck. None of the usual methods are used (e.g., rough and smooth, duplicate cards). Only one deck is used and it's on the table in its case from the beginning. It instantly resets. Last year, I showed David Acer an early version of this. He thought of a card, removed the deck from its case, spread the cards on the table himself and discovered his card was the only double-blank card in the deck. He admitted to being fooled. |

Blammo deck sounds like a winner and a good way to do "ID" like effects with a totally different method.
Looking forward to it!

Alice has now received rave reviews in every major magazine -- MAGIC, MUM, MAGIC CIRCULAR -- and to be published -- GENII. I don't get the Linking Ring, so I don't know if it's been reviewed there.

Hi guys! From watching the demo, I believe I understand how Alice's Revenge works & I plan to purchase it very soon... whether I'm correct in my guess or not, I love the effect. Anyway, I'm more of a very passionate hobbyist rather than a professional performer & I love to try to add in my own ideas to put my own personal twist or perhaps even occasionally improve an effect. I'd be curious to know what you pro's might think of this premise ....
You use a z wallet (himber, etc) & start by showing 4 REAL Queens (faces & backs, if you like) then return them to the z fold wallet, sneakily flip it over while setting it down, or just leave it in your hand if you don't have a table... (this particular effect would be more of a 'magic' effect rather than the 'mentalism' approach).... then do your magical patter or presentation & then remove the gaffs & show the vanished Queen of choice. One small subtlety might be to give a quick mix or shuffle to the 4 regular Queens before returning them to the wallet so that the order of the cards are not remembered when the 4 gaffs come out. Your thoughts, Gentlemen? |

Sorry, guys... moments after I hit the 'submit' button on my last posting, I realized that this idea may not be as good as I was hoping it was, for the simple fact that if this effect works the way I believe it works, then depending on which card the spectator selects, removing the gaffs from the wallet 'could' be an issue. I was hoping I could retract my posting, but I couldn't see how I could. I was shooting for being able to show all 4 Queens & the effect being that one of them turned blank .... maybe there's a better way, I don't know. Sorry I didn't think this one out for just another moment or two... I would've held back on my comments. But, on the positive side, maybe this idea will trigger someone else to help finish this idea I have.
Another cool idea would be if they could select the suit without SAYING it.... like, for example, (not that this is the best idea, or even well-thought out... but you'll get the general idea...) if you had business cards with the various suits written on the back.... you could use one set of four or several sets of four & arrange them in CHaSeD order.... spectator could cut this stack as many times as they want... they select a card from a face-down spread or you could dribble the cards & have them stop you... of course, you get the selected suit by glimpsing the card above .... they can change their mind... & you make the "THOUGHT-OF" selected. queen go blank... it's just one idea.... you could use a regular deck in CHaSeD order too. Again, guys, sorry for the pre-mature posting earlier |

No. But this is a non-issue since the Queen that "vanishes" is fully examinable.
Johnny, Bob has a handling in the instructions where you can show all of the Queens and then one disappears. Best part is, no switching of packets.

The Bammo Oblivion deck is a manuscript of effects. I haven't finished it yet. The basic effect is this: ANY card is named (there is no force or Equivoque). The spectator (not the magician) spreads the deck face up on the table and discovers the named card is missing--however the three mates are in the deck. This is how I performed it for David Acer (who admitted it fooled him).
In some versions, you do not need to know the card, in others they just think of a card and never name it. As with Alice, if you want, you can have one blank card in the deck to represent the card that is named. |

Is the missing card a double blank as per your post on the 3 Jan?

Yes, but it's flexible: you can have a double-blank card or a blank-faced card.

This is fantastic for weddings and anniversaries, just write/print the names of the bride and groom/couple along with the date of the wedding/anniversary on one side of the DB and your details on the other.
This is a great keepsake and also a great way of getting your details out there! Gary Jones.

This is now in for a Bizarre Magic set I am performing at Xmas.
As a fan of Victoriana, Steam Punk etc I like tricks that can be presented with this theme, the Alices Revenge / Alice in Wonderland plot fits perfectly and The Presentation idea by Funny Clown posted earlier is absolutely brilliant. Following on from the Presentation idea mentioned, I think this can be done without the Sleight of Hand and the Display of the Queens though to add more mystery to the effect, depends on the presentation style, I guess. You simply state that the four Queens are imprisoned in the card box and then build and emphasis the idea that the spectator has created the situation that it is as if the thought of Queen never existed. Looks more like Bizarre Mentalism then rather than a Vanish. |

I have extended the presentation described above using Jumbo Cards and Spectators have given me positive feedback relating this.
I add additional patter at the point where the Spectator selects one of the Queens - I get them to select a Random Queen from the 4 Jumbo Cards and make the reference to Alice shrinking because of the "Drink Me" liquid when she returns to Wonderland and that why the Cards are so big. The Queen that they have selected then vanishes. Credit again to "Funny Clown" above for some great Patter to turn this trick into a masterpiece. |
