I always use the birthday child, if they are interested, as my assistant. And before I leave I make sure to teach that child a simple trick or two (again if they are interested). I don't know about anybody else, but that little grin of accomplishment is what makes it all worth while for me...
I have found that I do not suffer from insanity... instead I rather enjoy it! : )

I've started teaching this trick to kids who beg to learn a trick:
Hold a pen in your closed fist. Open your fist and the pen is suspended there. Secret: your other hand is grabbing your wrist and extending the index finger, holding the pen in place. Once I show them that, I turn my body around again so they only see the back of the hand and I let go of my wrist, with the pen still suspended, and say, "Of course if you know some real magic.....you can do it like this." Most of you will know how to do this. It teaches them a trick and also leaves them speechless. This is one that I also keep a secret from my kids because it's one that can be done anywhere with two pens and a watch and I can't risk them tipping it. |
