I have loved magic for a long time but just recently began practicing 24/7. Card Manipulation is my passion in magic and Jeff McBride is my favorite magician. I have recorded several of my moves - "semi" routines via a web cam. I was wondering if there is anywhere that I can upload the clips to so that they could be critiqued by other magicians or even members of this board. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I tried downloading it and then unziped it and then opened it and it worked. I wonder what the problem could be.

I had the same problem.
After downloading to Desktop, the message in Real Player is "Unalbe to Render video; 1263 decompressor not found" If you load the clip to http://www.magicvideodepot.com it will take a day or two before it is posted. However, they offer stream video as well. With the site under new ownership, I don't know how long it would take before it is available for download. Well I tried Windows media player and Real Player and got error messages. I'll try something else later. |

With Windows Media Player I got:
Windows Media Player Error: Cannot play back the video stream: no suitable decompressor could be found. I'm not a whizz so I don't have a clue how to fix it. When you find the solution make sure you post it, I would like to see your clip. Kevin Strange, just tried again with WMP and it's downloading a codec (??) OK Just managed to view your demo. It's good, but practice wouldn't do much harm. I know you are wanting comments... so a few more months practice and you will a)be able to b*** pa** more cards, b)fan those cards nicer (check out previous posts on fanning powder - some like it - others hate it). Keep practicing, it's good so far... |

Kevin:
Good advice. I may have to try and download his clip as well but my PC is a piece of junk at the moment. more like two tin cans held together with string.

Hmm perhaps even taking snap shots with a digital camera would not be so bad as you can see each step and how the hand positioning is in each one. It may be a better way to go.
Infact if you place all the camera shots into one sheet and save as a PDF file. It would download very quickly and everyone could see them no matter what system they are using. You can get the acrobat reader program for free at Adobe.com. It is just an idea that may work better for everyone.

I viewed your video. Thanks for posting!
I lked it generally. How do you incorporate this into your act? Is there a theme? Only a small comment - I like the way Jeff McBride produces cards - he uses acting and makes it look like he is actually 'pulling' the cards out of the air. This can reduce the appearance of finger juggling that can sometimes occur. But that's only my opinion! Keep up the good work! Have you any other rotuines? |

Maylor:
Great comments. You are right. By producing the card and drawing back the hand slightly as the card is produced, it gives the appearance as if the card is being plucked from the air. It is a subtle move but it really adds more realism to the productions. Thanks for bringing that up as it is important.

Thanks for the input everyone. I just wish it would have worked for more people when they tried to d-load it. I'll look into it and see if i can fix the problem. I'll try to make some clips of some of my other moves. I do not yet have an actual routine made up and that was just a string of moves that I just put together as to get some flow.
Just a few quick questions: For these moves I had a blue backed bicycle deck only because they are the only deck that I have truly broken in. I know that there are many manipulation decks out there, but are they good for both fanning and b*** p*** productions? If not, will using fanning powder on a broken in bee deck still allow me to produce cards cleanly as well as fan them. For ex. w/ the Cardini sigle production, the thumb must press down on the corner of the card and then pull it through the index and ring finger. My thumb must be somewhat damp in or for it to stick to the corner of the card, otherwise I cant get my snap off clean. Will fanning powder take away from the grip I need to produce cleanly. |

I would say the only suggestion for you is to try it for yourself and see what works best for you. What works well for one manipulator may not work well for another. Give it a try and see what happens with it.

Kyle is right... try it and see what works best for you. We all adapt moves to fit our acts - sometimes without even knowing.
