Hi all.
I've been asked some shifts I like, unfortunately it's not a technique I use any more. Too risky and rarely possible in the environments I'm currently playing. In the past, I have used 3-4 of them though. Nothing really outstanding, mainly variations on known moves. Very often you have to adapts moves to your hands. Anyway, I don't think I have ever shown you this one: http://www.arnoldmcdonald.org/code/main.php?p=6200000 (One Hand Shift #1) Of course, you have to move the body during the execution of the sleight, it helps to conceal the move. Really, in some environments it works like a charm, trust me. I don't use it any more but for fun, but it's really a cool sleight IMHO. I shoot 2 shifts, the second one is slowed and exposed enough to understand the working. Yep, 25 views allowed only, I'm a pain in the ass, I know. |

The clip didn't work, I'm not sure if it's my computer or the file. Anyone else have the same problem?

Very nice Arnold as with all your video's.
Here is an old video I did a long time ago on table shifts. The first lone is based off an old color change move. The second is somthing that might be based off a John Scarne idea. http://www.mrhypnotist.org/video/glennbishopshift.wmv The second one I go over the top - the first I use often in my work. Cheers!

That is the Artanis shift.
Apparently, Artanis could do the move completely invisible. |

Well,
Once in a while some people complain about the fact they can't run the videos I put on my website. Yet, I use very standard codecs, like K-Lite Codec Pack and very common softwares like VirtualDub or VideoConverter. Any decent video player should do the job! Once in a while they complain because I don't allow too many views. Yet it seems to me I'm free to do what I want with MY videos and MY website! I've explain many times why views are now controlled. Once in a while some complain because they'd prefer steaming. But in the same time many want the possibility to download the video in order to make a copy of it. Do what you want, be as cool as you want, propose as many alternatives as you can, **** it! there are always people not happy. Once in a while some complain because I don't detail the techniques I show. Fancy that! I do that freely, facing many remarks and I should obey the rules of people I don't know, never show or share something but have demands? We're really living in a weird world. Worst! People complaining because I don't exposed an absolute invisible technique... while I very often show bad angles on purpose, to help people to understand the moves!!! Oh, and there are also those complaining because I didn't mention the move appeared first July 18th 1645 in a private Guatemalan booklet. Hey guys, the majority of my moves have been taken from real play, real guys, some books of course, and even devised by myself. No one knows everything. I deeeeeeeeeeeply apologize if some sleights are known for ages. Not to mention cretins always trying to **** me off like the very useful 900nm. Bloody hell! I'm gonna tell you why I post videos. 1) In the past I've found this place of great interest for me. I've learnt a lot watching guys like Doc or Z, just to name two. Not to mention reading guys like Jason England or Maverick is priceless. Yet, I'm not friend with everyone here, to say the least, but I've enjoyed this forum. I consider it's my turn now to pay back a little. Many think the material I make available is interesting. Cool! 2) Many knowledgeable guys are no longer posting here. Or seldom. As a matter of fact, IMHO this part of the MC is dying a little. Yet, talking with true cheats, actual players and learned amateurs seems of premium choice for anyone interested about card hustling. But that's life, not everyone think in the same way. If my posts and vids can help to make it last a little bit longer, that's cool again. I'll be pleased. Frankly, one day I'm gonna be tired. |

Hey Anderew, I appreciate you taking the time to shoot a new video of the shifts.
The reason I brought up the shift in the other post (blackeagle's thread), is that, home games in Japan (where I have lived for about 6 years now) seem to be run a century behind the games that are held in the US. There are no "procedures" or other strict rules to be followed by. There are some serious players who know how to shuffle properly, but if I were to throw out an analogy... If we were to refer to modern day home games in the US as Post 9/11 security, then the games running in Japan would be like the time when smoking was still allowed on airplanes. Occasionally you might find a game where there are two decks in play for speed and efficiency between hands, but even then so, I have seen people fumbling with the deck the entire time before it was time for that deck to be used in the following hand. If I were any less of a moral person, I would be eating this places alive. I guess however, living in Japan these past years has hurt me in terms of my skills as a card cheat. As it was Darwin Ortiz that got me into riffle stacking etc... back in the day, I started with and proceeded to polish my skills stacking for a five card draw game. It has only been these last 2 years or so in which I have started to re-work it all towards hold-em. |

Hmm, it is hard to give any opinions/ criticism/ advice since I am not seeing it from a natural angle.
One, used in play, you would want to keep your hands closer to the table, and complete the shift (riffle pass) as you shift your weight in your chair or something. It looks a bit ridgy/ forced as well. It would work when everyone has had a couple drinks in them, but would want to be avoided at times other than that. I am trying to find my camera (no idea where it is >_<) and I will put up some table shifts later on in the next few days. |

Nice AMcD.
Glenn, the first shift would be cool in magic. Never thought of a shift that way. Just like Doc's shift.

That type of shift/pass does not work well at a table.
It really works best standing with the audience above....It will not even work well on a stage because of all the hand movement under the deck. I have also seen riffle passes with the riff;e in front of the cards and I have seen them when riffling the back of the cards. In either case, I prefer rear riffles if a rifle pass is used at all Good luck practicing.

Of course if shade or as we magicians call it - misdirection is added to the move by doing it on the offbeat the move works out very well. The second one has it's magic use too. Cheers and thanks for the kind words.

Grant,
Nothing in my comment was pointed at you! To be honest, your post wasn't here when I started to type mine, I saw it once my post appeared. What the hell do you mean? Thanks anyway for naming the move. That's exactly the kind of comment I'm looking for: references, fixes, advices. Can you give me an exact reference about the move? I don't have that many stuff about Artanis, but it's not in it though. When I started to work on it in the past, to me, it was just a variation on the elevator shift. A sleight I saw in a book from Buckley (if I'm not mistaken!). I have half a dozen variations of that kind for many shifts. I liked this one because with a minimum of misdirection it works very well. Thanks for the comments, guys! |
