Chris Wasshuber from http://www.lybrary.com has a special deal going on Run Silent Run Deep for existing owners of Silent Running. This deal is especially tasty if you combine it with the $10 off pre-publication special (available until July 31). See the bottom of this post for details.
Here are his latest thoughts, from his current newsletter. "Ben sent me an almost ready PDF for "Run Silent Run Deep". It has grown to 216 pages, and it is an astonishing collection of ideas, routines and scripts evolving around the Silent Running method. Since my iPad allows me more reading time 'away from the office' (with iPhone and iPad I am never truly out of the office) I was able to read through most of "Run Silent Run Deep". The short assessment is that I love this ebook! Anybody who saw the potential in SR will find here in RSRD a mountain of ideas and concepts to further improve it or apply it to completely new story lines and effects. The list of contributors is eclectic: - Richard Busch - Hiro Sakai - Jason Messina - Colin Miller - Ran Pink - Jamie Badman - Claude Imperiale - Isaac Louie - Bernardo Rodriguez - Matthew Shepherd - Steve Shufton - Tesei - Tommy - Mario Unger - Josh Zandman - and don't forget the foreword by Marc Paul I would like to highlight two routines that I fell in love with. They are simply ingenious further hiding the underlying method and strengthening the effect. The first is "Silent Past" by Jamie Badman and Colin Miller - the Underground Collective. Jamie and Colin developed an engaging and entertaining story that eliminates the need for you to ask the spectator to think of a number between 1 and 10. This is one of the criticisms SR has received. And even Hiro Sakai addresses this issue in his contribution because you can't really ask that way in Japanese. In "Silent Past" this is completely eliminated due to the clever script and story. Marvelous! You also get wonderful graphics to print out the special photos to be used for the reveal phase of "Silent Past". I think that this effect is worth at least half the price or RSRD. The second routine I would like to mention is "Vanishing Thought" by Ben Harris. Ben has an entire section on the application of the SR method to small packet tricks. The one I find ingenious is Vanishing Thought. Go through the SR method. You don't try to fish for the card (you don't know which card the spectator is thinking of). You ask the spectator to take out any four cards from the deck making sure his selection is part of the four. You do not look or peek at the four cards you get. You simply show the cards to the spectator and his selection vanishes to reappear in your wallet or pocket. I find the thinking very clever and I love the fact that you never try to fish for the card with questions like red/black, high/low etc. With 216 pages there is obviously a lot more than I can cover here. Ben added as a Bonus his Starman routine including the beautiful graphics for you to print out the special cards. I personally loved to read Hiro Sakai's contribution. I met Hiro Sakai in Japan more than 15 years ago. I even shared a room with him at the Hakone convention - well there were about 20 other magicians sleeping in the same tatami covered room. I saw him perform and I saw his magic thinking up close. He is simply amazing. Very little of him is available in English. That much more was I pleased to see a contribution in RSRD. And the list continues. Richard Busch. What do I need to say more here? Every mentalist knows that he is one of the finest thinkers in the field. Or the creative powerhouses of Josh Zandman, Mario Unger and Tommy Guglielmi, and all the others you can see in the list above. I highly recommend it. Take advantage of the pre-pub offer which will expire in 2 days and saves you $10. And if you have bought SR from me or if you buy it together with RSRD you will get an additional $5 loyalty discount immediately applied in the shopping cart (once you are logged into your account)." Thanks for the positive feedback, guys. A LOT of work went into this. The goals being: 1: Better explain the process so more people will feel comfortable with it. 2: Provide a great collection of material. We're just getting the COLOR templates for Starman organized, and then we'll start sending the ebooks out to everyone. Cheers guys. Benny

This just in from GREG ARCE:
"Wow, what a tome you've created! Man, I never imagined that this could lead to so many things. I was taken with the concept when I first read it, but truthfully I usually stick with my Scorch routine when I'm dong any type of "imagined card" effect. BUT some of the ideas in here have gotten to me. Steve Shufton's ideas are brilliant. I love the subtle touches. That's what usually does it for me. The idea for ACAAN is a very good one. SIlence of the Lambs is a brilliant use for this idea. I applaud Isaac for coming up with that presentation. Of course, Ran's White Room does a good job of making the possible outs even smaller. Lots of room for having outs in in impossible places. Just a lot of great ideas, presentations and routines in this book. Great job!!!" Thanks Greg. I appreciate you checking out this advance copy. And, I'm so happy that a true exponent of our art is enjoying RSRD. Benny

I'll ditto on my own words. Wow, that sounds dirty.
As I said in the email I sent Ben, this new collection has made me think deeply (pun intended) about this devious method of making someone think of a card. I already sent Ben two ideas that came up as I read the book. There are a lot of really clever pieces in this book. A lot of guys out there put their own spins on this system and came up with some fantastic presentations. Great job, Ben! And applause to all those guys that contributed to the process. Greg

Gentleman,
Thank you all for your positive feedback. Greg, your ideas are wonderful. I've earmarked them for the sequel to the sequel: "Dead Silence" which will complete the trilogy. Benny

I had the honor and the pleasure to read Silent Run Deep and I have to say that if before the method/effect was great now is GOLD!
The procedure and the routines included are strong and direct to the point. I find so many ideas and effects which I don't know what I have to choose from!!! Each one is so well conceived that if perform properly will give the impression that you can read the minds for real! This is a MUST HAVE for all the serious performer! 10/10

Well .... ummmm.... hmmmm....
Those of you that know me know that I tend to write LOOOOOOONG posts. I JUST received this (although I need to contact Chris as the color templates were not attached to the e-mail). It is late here, but, I read just Steve Shufton's scripting. Nothing more. Verdict: Based on that ALONE, I would have paid 49.95 for this. I have NEVER had ANY trouble with SR, but, Steve has created such diabolically beautiful nuances that you simply CANNOT fail with SR. I need to scroll back some pages now and look at my friend Tommaso's SR ACAAN. I KNOW it will be EXCELLENT. Ben Harris: THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! (Australian Gandalf!) Peter Duffie: THANK YOU!!!!! (The great Scotsman who started this by being a bit dodgy;) ) Steve Shufton: THANK YOU!!!!!! (And especially for proving my point that we long haired magicians have some serious mojo ) All the contributors: GRAZIE!!!!! Finally to Chris Wasshuber for HIS excellent service. I doubt I shall be coming up for air anytime soon W O W. Vlad |

Hi Vlad,
You are right. Steve's nuances are worth the price of the book alone. Benny

One really tired night later....... Still scratching the surface. I didn't know it was gonna be so ******* long... 200+ pages of pure content! What I really like so far:
# The clarification of the effect makes me want to perform it again. Much better presentation of the initial SR effect. # Pink room, or something like that was genius. Can use it. Now for my current favorite: # Neural Pathway. I loved every aspect of this one, especially the Neural Scream. It basically dances around their cards value and suit without actually getting any specifics, and then let's you do whatever the *** you want with it in terms of revelation... I feel like downing some sugar and trying it. |

I didn't know I needed to have the original "Silent Running" in order to understand it. I don't have the original, did I waste my money? Or is there enough information in there to make it not necessary?
