Hi all,
I got very excited Peter finally released his new ebook called "Plots & Ploys" and I would like to spend my whole day today reading the whole e-book. I really can't wait as it has 20 effects that I am going to indulge myself in there. In addition, Peter also offers a great deal at his site: http://www.peterduffie.com I will post my thoughts tonight once I finish reading the whole e-book. Excited this is finally out. One of Peter's best ebooks. And I'm not just saying that because I made a (very small) contribution to the ebook! It really is packed with great material.
Flat Pack is one of THE most commercial effects I have seen in a while. I offered up a handling which might appeal to those who could be afraid of the only real move in Peter's original version. Frankly, though, you're probably better off with Peter's original as it's ridiculously fair looking. Loads of other great, commercial effects as well. Oh, and DO NOT overlook the simple beauty of Jaks' Blaks. It is a lovely two card revelation that is definitely worth your attention.

Hi Cameron,
I like your approach which has no-palming version too Cameron. - I also really like the plot and Peter's thinking behind of this magic and also glad that could prepare the cards ourself. It's a nice addition to the ambitious card routine. The routine is very commercial and I immediately add this to my working repertoire! I also enjoyed the first trick "Return to Ipcress", a wonderful and visual appearance of the Jacks! You will also find a few utility moves which I find them interesting and practical. I really like all the card magic in this collection as well as the mentalism stuffs which I find them very appealing to me. I will post up my thoughts tonight. Thanks, Andrew. Peter mentions that he was going to release Flat Pack as a dealer item at one point. And he well could have! it is a seriously good effect!
The Diary effect is killer as well.

Okay, this really ISN'T fair!!! Cameron, I just received the Francis/Forrester Project today (with Wave Stunner ... what a COOL effect my friend!).
I suppose I need to take a break from the Café for a bit. How am I supposed to remain focused when the magic mafia of Francis, Forrester, and Duffie keep DOING this to me!!! And I am the ITALIAN and YOU guys are KILLIN' me. On top of ALL of THAT, I am working through Run Silent, Run Deep from Ben Harris, AND Steve Shufton's Portal. I do NOT like you guys AT ALL *Mumbles about injustices and stealing my turf as I click on peterduffie.com Ahimsa, Vlad PS: Really, I am retooling my acts, and you guys need to take a bloody holiday so I can get these things IN my repertoire. And don't tell me I do not need to buy either. I sense the ectoplasm, I HEAR the voices ... I feel like the Homer Simpson of magic except with long hair and a lot thinner... mmmmmmmmmmmmmm Maaaaaagiccccc (Yes, Vlad IS off his rocker again) |

I say that is because his approach in diary effects is phenomenal. I have read many of his wonderful diary effects not only in this e-book but based on his previous releases and all of them were awesome. I also like the book test too. But I could not comment more as book test is really new to me but I am glad that the book test in this e-book is something workable and something that I will use. Many wonderful stuffs in this e-book I should say. I managed to sit down and go through the materials all one-shot yesterday. To be honest, I think Peter has done it again to produce a wonderful e-book that has card and mentalism magic. I really like the materials in this collection simply because I don't find them difficult to do. In addition, the materials here are all practical and I think this e-book is something for everyone here. Allow me to review a few of my favourite items. Let's start off with the first one:
Return to Ipcress ----------------- This is a wonderful piece of card magic! I really like the display of the Jacks out from nowhere! This is a nice variation to Jerry Sadowitz's "Ipcress" and the handling is not so difficult. I always liked the idea of visual card magic. Excellent! Fragmented Thoughts ------------------- I find this idea very interesting and it's different from the conventional idea in making a prediction in a pay envelope. This one is very clever and it's very easy to do. All depends on how convincing your patter/instruction is. This one is unique. Charcol-B ---------- This is a nice utility move. Basically, you leave a card outjogs about half its length and then the card is secretly controlled to the top. very deceptive and it's a good addition to your card work! Book Test 1 & 2 --------------- As I mentioned earlier, book test is not my forte and it seems after reading the two versions of book test, I started to like them. In fact, I may use them for my act in the near future. I think Peter did an excellent job in providing a very detail explanation on the methods, etc. The handling is easy and these versions involve two spectators. I find them suit to my act because usually I like to do a mindreading stuff that associates with two spectators. Pivotal Aces ----------- Another visual eye candy! I really like the construction behind of this effect as perhaps I am a little bias because I simply like visual card magic! Flat Pack --------- This is a nice routine and 2 versions are available! In addition, it would be great addition to your ambitious card routine. I really like the construction of this effect. This effect straight goes to my working repertoire! There you are! The effects that I mentioned above are my favourites and in fact, some of them are added in my repertoire due to the nature of the effects. There are 20 effects in this e-book and I am sure you will find something of interest. There are too many things for me to review or cover each of the items here in detail. But really, I really like the card magic plus I also learned some interesting sleights. Not to miss out Duffie's nice diary effect and the Jaks' Blaks too. Peter's ebooks have always offered a lot of bang for the buck. Great material at a great price.
And now "Buy one-get one Free". What more can you ask for. In addition to "Plots & Ploys" mentioned by Andrew and which I still need to get, there's "Effortless Card Magic", "Card Conspiracy Vol. 1", "Card Conspiracy Vol. 2", "Diamonds from Coal" to name a few. All with excellent material. You should also check out his eTricks. One word...Excellent! Many have video demos so you know what your buying. Some favorites of mine that I picked up recently are Power Trip, Down Fall and Trancefusion. Thanks Peter! Craig

Besides Plots and Ploys, I also picked up the e-trick "Cluster Bomb" recently. This is a REALLY powerful routine and fun to perform. Peter has a very strong sense of what "works". I also love the deviousness of many effects wherein the performer seems to make a mistake, and then, WHAM. The people who refuse to buy e-books are TRULY missing out on GREAT magic from people like Peter Duffie and many others. A pity really. I suppose it will take them seeing the reactions of an audience to some of this magic to change their perspective. When other V.I.P.s like Ben Harris and Cameron Francis offer such praise, you KNOW the magic is excellent. Thank you Peter!! Ahimsa, Vlad |

Vlad,
I totally agree with you about Peter's trick "Cluster Bomb". I personally think it has a "Masuda's Wow" feel to it. What do you think? |

Hi Tom;
Thank you for the very thorough and honest review. One thing I have to say (confess): In Easy Flat-Pack (Cameron Francis), I am guilty of adding the Kardyro move! Cameron used the top of the deck. Maybe I should leave things alone - if it ain't broken, don't try to fix it? Thanks again & Best Wishes Peter

I didn't pick up Plots & Ploys, but I did take advantage of the last 2 for 1 sale on Peter's site.
Dark Angel is one I think is great and is so simple and direct it almost sneaks up on you. Trance Fusion is a really cool hopped up version of Triple Stretch, and Card Conspiracy Vol 1 & 2 are packed with all sorts of great effects. Those two e-books will keep me staying up late many mights. I like diary/pocket calendar tricks, so the Duffie Diary was another I picked up that is a nice twist on using a diary or pocket calendar. I guess I'll just HAVE to look into getting Plots & Ploys too...oh darn!! There is so much more on his website it's almost hard to try to select just a few items! |
