I cannot decide between two magic related products. The Secrets of Magic by David Stone of Sick by Ponta the Smith. SHould I skip these entirely and go for something else with about 50 dollars?

If you share with us the list of products you already have and your interests then we will be in a better position to assist you. There is a thread in the DVD section on Sick by Ponta. The routines are advanced though.

SICK is very advanced coin work. Fun to watch, but much time and practice to master...

Currently the things off the top of my mind that I own.
-Eight Sponge Balls. -2 Half Dollars. Working up to seven. -Bobos. -Royal Road and Expert at the Card Table. PDFs. -A very cheap Chop Cup. -Extreme Burn Original -Free Will. Forgot the creator of that effect... -Complete Course By Joshua Jay. -I am planning on getting Mark Wilsons. -Cards...a lot of them. And that is all that comes to mind. My interests are close up and parlor magic currently. Anything semi close up. I love coin magic currently. I used to brush it off but I have started to realize how beautiful it can be. And the pretty much all magic in general. Mentalism. Card magic. However currently my focus is coin magic. |

May I make a suggestion, if you want to enter the realm of Coin Magic?
Michael Rubinstein's Encyclopedia of Coin Sleights (3 vol DVD set). Here's a peek at what's on Volume 1: http://www.dreamlandmagic.com/coin-sleights-dvd1.html You cannot go wrong with that set. Doug |

Looks great. The sleights same a little more elaborate than Bobos. Most likely due to the date published... so far I think Sick by Ponta will not be practical yet. Stones video seems like a solid investment. So does the Extreme Burn Upgrade. Also the first volume of the DVD Series is a great contender LOL. Does the Extreme Burn Upgrade come as a download?

Save your money and buy the tarbell orginal course on pdf from lybray.com, it will give you years worth of magic in all formats for well under the 50 dollars.

Problem is the closest B and M shop is an hour away. However if a shop was closer I would definitely go for it. Also I am planning on getting the Tarbell Course soon. What are the first two volumes like?

I've recently thought of Hank Lee. He recently moved. I used to go down there once or twice a year. Now that I'm back in Bangor (after 20 years), I realize that Hank Lee's was the closest. I miss magic shops. When I was in Ft. Myers, Florida, we used to have Don's Magic & Fun Shop on Ft. Myers Beach. He left long ago. I bought more magic there than most places I've visited. Doug |

There is no such thing as Eisenhower halves, must be dollars.
I wouldn't waste your time on Extreme Burn 2.0. The original is all you need to make incredible magic. You will always pay more at Brick and Mortar shops. I sure wish we still had some in Denver. I would gladly pay more if they were like the shops from the 80's. Sammy

I have to agree with Vick.
The guys at the store can offer you solid advice and point you in the right direction. They can also help you plan your purchases, so you make them in the right order, as they will have a better idea about what follows on from what. I find I get very honest advise from my local shop, if something doesn't match the hype, they'll tell me, if it's not great value, they'll tell me. I do order online sometimes, as very few shops stock everything, but I try and get to my local as much as possible. I saw Tarbell on Lybrary, and nearly bought it, but, I'd rather have the books. Everything is so accessible nowadays we are overloaded. If I were buying Tarbell now, I'd buy them one by one, only moving on once I'd given each one the respect they deserve. |

Sammy, last time I was in Denver I tried to go to a magic shop I had been there a few years before and found it gone. There were a couple in Colorado Springs, though. The one in the Citadel mall is sparse on stuff but is run by a really nice guy who likes to talk about magic. The other one I know about is in old downtown somewhat near the Old Chicago's. It's a magic and costume shop, also run by a cool fellow. If you find yourself down that way, check them out.
