I've used the original ShowTech for probably 8 years now. I know it's dated with the MD's but it's been sure-fire all along. Never misses a beat....

I love my mp3tech for any size show.
I've used it from a private party all the way up to a 16,000 seat auditorium. It has never failed me, and customer service is top notch.

Show tech for obver 15 years. still kicking on strong. And really great service if you ever need it, They will one-day ship to any event you may be working, to keep you on track. Kerry and his staff are top notch. I need to go with the new versions, but my old showtech is still number one for us. Mp3 tech is thew way to go is you are upgrading and can affors it, you wont,,, and I mean WONT regret it.

Steve Kline- with Media Star, do you also need a lighting board to control the lighting. Is there a timeline type of feature that triggers the light cues in sync with the music (ie. during the song, at 1:13 we want the scanners to sweep to the metamorphosis switch, etc....)
thanks for the input.. scott |

I am interested in buying a wireless system. My question is this. I am a full time performer. Performing birthday shows all the way up to full auditorium 1600 seat theaters. Would it make more sense to buy the Mediastar or the mp3tech. They both essentially do the same thing correct with the medisastar offering more options if you would need them? I am considering paying the extra few hundred for this system if it's worth it. Thank you for all your help!

I'm happy using an MP3-Tech with a battery pack on my MiPro MA-202. I just plug & play - The whole system is wireless and works great.

...and I don't have any apple products, that is one reason I purchased this one.
The other is the iphone remotes/programs really do not appear to be what entertainers want or need. Yes they work because people have worked through and made them work. One of the main problems is apple changes everything so often that I see many people trying to make what they had work with the new stuff, therefore spending more money. I had Sound Commander, a PC based program, that worked great until I had to get a new computer. (It was nice because one could actually put script lines on the screen as cues.) When I got the new faster computer it did not want to work and I could no longer get support. As I have not had the ipod... stuff I don't know exactly how it works but the Ultimatecontrole lookl like it has all the features I am looking for. Mp3 player The mp3 player is made is manufactured in a factory that makes mp3 players. THIS IS NOT GARAGE ELECTRONICS but a real professional device. We spent over a year designing the firmware for the device to be exactly what an entertainer needs. LED light flashes when signal from remote is received Track # playing is displayed large on the screen Setting so the screen will not time out Simple interface with windows and Mac Easily move your songs from iTunes® Plays mp3, wma, wav files Easily make many different playlists Set device so songs play continuously or so songs will cue up and pause waiting for a command Make playlists right in the device Edit playlists right in the device Set individual track volumes to regulate the natural differences from downloading from different locations and for dramatic effect in your presentation (aka- a sentimental piece can have a low volume track playing in the background without having to touch controls) Equalizer settings to adjust sound thru different speakers MicroSD card slot for added memory The remote The remote is also factory made. The design was created by a think tank of 8 entertainers with every last entertainers needs in mind. Fade out button on the side allows music to fade out in a quick squeeze of the remote Custom designed by entertainers for entertainers Curved back so it fits around your leg and won’t flip around in your pocket Strap option to strap it to your leg, arm, or belt instead of putting it your pocket Feel the buttons click when pressed so you know you pressed the button Raised spots on next track and volume up buttons to you know what button you are pushing Shaped button so you know what button you are pushing Common battery is easy to change Specifically paired to mp3 so there will be no interference even if someone else in the same room is using the same device I really hope it as good as it sounds. |

That sounds great Ken. I'm going to take a serious look at that.
The reason I came on here was because Apple has driven me around the twist. There are songs that I've both purchased from itunes and uploaded from CD's I've purchased that will NOT work on ipod. They work OK on itunes but not on ipod. Sometimes the song sits there not playing at all, other times the song skips straight away and other times a bit of the song plays before skipping to the next track. I've been on the Apple forums and I've tried all the quick-fix tricks but in the end they said 'because a song plays on itunes is no guaranee it will play on ipods.' So I'm now in the market for some kind of music system that bypasses Apple and all it's associated products entirely. |

Kent,
You are wrong about Apple. When Apple updates products or software, you can continue using your older software or hardware without any problems. They are an amazing company and most Apple customers will tell you that. As far as being what entertainers need or want, I would say wrong again. The response to the Show Cues App has been overwhelming and we have some of the biggest names in magic as customers. It can do everything the other devices do for a lot less money using a device you already carry with you (if you own an iPhone or other iDevice). Of course if you don't own an iPhone, well…you don't own an iPhone All the best, Carl |

While it does come down to individual preferences, I have to come in for anything from Wireless Wizardry and Kerry Pollack. I bought one of the first Show Techs and used it a lot until the Media Star came out. I have never had a single problem with it in any way. I perform in every conceivable venue with it. I have owned or played with a lot of other cueing systems. If you seldom change your music a simple iPod with a remote is great. If you have several versions of your show as I do having the Media Star computer screen cue me is a great asset. I can also change show music/sound effects on the fly. If you already own a laptop I can show you how to use it and a $40 remote to accomplish almost the same thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWG7dQ-IG7A

I have used the show tech since its conception, Still have my original, and have it for back up??? ya right like you need back up with any ces product) LOL.. then we recently purchased the mediastar, then upgraded to the Axtell Mediastar software for multiple characters. We don't need it for multiple characters but, we do keep true stereo for our original show music then for the Axtell tracks the software from CES designed for AXTELL, directs the digital signal thru the sound card (USB). It is great not having to have my music just on the right channel, always true stereo. But here is the key with these fine folks, We have been working on new projects and Steve (Axtell) and Kerry (CES) Have been there for us during this process at the oddest of after office hours with answers to our question, I e-mail on a sat. Morn, with no expectations of a reply until the next working day.... But NOOOOOOo. These guys have taken the time to respond as fast as possible, You can not beat their products and most of all the SERVICE behind them. Just Sayin!!!!!!! So I say CES Mediastar, and have to throw in a shout out to Steve Axtell, with him and his toucan backed up by mediastar, we have a winning combination.

Carl, since I don't have any apple products I have to go by what others have said. Many have talked about the program or remote, whatever it is, not working with their iproduct? It may be user error, as is many times the case.
I have heard about apple changing their docking system soon. They might have an adapter for it, I don't know, just something else someone mentioned. If it works for you and others that's ok. I just mentioned this one as it looked great and was more affordable than VSM etc. When I get mine I will review. |

Being fair to Carl... If there's major changes in the software Apple usually does a good job of letting it's App Developers know what's coming. I'm a certified Apple iOS programmer. I'm not currently using it for anything (My primary income is magic shows), but I get their emails all the time. If Apple changes anything on the software side Carl will likely be given plenty of advance notice to get everything updated. I wouldn't worry about that.
The hardware side is a different question. The dock change is a rumor right now. I've heard everything from a smaller connector to getting rid of the dock altogether and using induction chargers. The thing is, this is Apple. They're pretty secretive. There's just as much chance that they'll keep the same connector as there is that they'll eliminate it altogether. Nobody knows. The bigger question is whether the remote manufacturer (iJet) is certified to use the dock connector. Apple makes you pay big bucks for that. I don't know specific numbers, but I looked into it once and some sources said that it costed $100,000 just to get started. That's chump change if you're Sony / Bose, but a deal breaker for small businesses. I don't know for certain, but I always felt the timing of VSM's demise was suspiciously in time with Apple implementing that program. iJet is a bigger company though. So there's a good possibility that they're certified Apple hardware developers and not just reverse engineering everything. Again, I don't know so don't bank on what I'm saying here. If iJet is official though, there's a good chance that they'd be in the loop with Apple regarding hardware changes. Anyway, that's my $0.02. I feel very comfortable with the forward compatibility of the app. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the remote. Depending on what Apple does I may keep my old iPhone around for a while so I've got something to work with until Carl & Shawn get everything sorted out. Hope that provides some insight. Those of you who have been following this should know that I have no reason to be biased. |
