In 22 words or less....

Are your shows picking up or are you dead in the water?
What part of the world are you from?
What's your market?

Just the basics please so we can all read through them quickly.

Me
Dead in the water.
Southern California
Mostly private parties and some corporate, fundraisers and school shows are non existant at this time.

Your turn.

I skipped this slowdown and am right where I planned to be. Steady growth for over 7 years*

Philly.
Closeup and parlour.

Exactly 22 words (not counting the star). *grin*

*(except for a weird December about 4 years ago, where my January had more gigs than December. Still haven't figured that one out.)

Question and point for thought: if your state is "dead in the water", why not consider selling yourself in other states?

Create something valuable enough that people will fly you in for the opportunity to have you at their event.

Just something to consider.

May I assume your desire is to help others who need inspiration?

Much better than last year, but not as good as 2008
I live in the Philadelphia area.
I'll do walk around, parlor, schools, birthday parties, Summer camps, day care, parades, festivals, and about anything that pays.

Not specifically. I enjoy discussing, suggesting, and hearing about potential solutions to problems. Sorry for not keeping to the thread topic.

Jay, are you talking about your shop or Best Magic? If it was Best Magic I did go there and I hung out for about 2-Hours.

July and August always terrible. August is only good for the clients booking for Christmas parties. Sept - Jan keeps me very busy.

Close-up, Stand-up, % Stage for Corporate, Private, & Organization clients / venues.

Had a pretty good library season, but it's over. Usually do the Illinois State Fair in Aug., but lost that this year (budget cuts). Rest of the year is not looking that good right now, so I would say dead in the water.

I do corporate and family events. Lots of schools, libraries, fairs and festivals usually.

Picking up a little. Birthday shows have declined, but I have been doing quite a few school shows.
May every day be magic!

It's not the economy, times are changing and our marketing needs to change with it.

I'm south of them and don't cater to the public. It's not uncommon for workers to stay 10 hours and have food delivered.

Things are staying steady. Birthdays are down. But without a doubt it is the economy or atleast that is an easy excuse. Schools budgets are being cut, people being laid off etc. So yes I tend to think is has something to do with the economy. people are scared to spend. Having a great market plan and branching out will help. Be ready to change your plans quickly if need be.

My main markets are Elementary Schools, Summer Camps and Libraries and I'm in Southern California.

Here are my numbers:

Total income for 1999 was up 3.2% from 98 (my slowest growth year ever).

This year total income so far up 13.2% from 99.

Here's the break down for this year:

Elementary Schools/Summer Camps - Up 10.2%
Libraries - Up 29.6%

Still averaging 12-13 shows a week. By the end of August that'll be reduced to about 10 a week.

Jury is still out on the upcoming school year, but so far seems to be about the same as last.

Success to everybody,
