Wow John..Great numbers..
I just started my Children's Birthday party business this year and averaging 4 a month..I guess not bad for the first 5 months in business but looking to get in the Library and day care party also.

Just scratching my way, trying to buy or get as much information as possible to get this business moving forward..
Thanks

The rest of the summer and Early fall will be busy, but late fall and the winter don't look real good, so I would say shows will be down this year for us.

Been checking 2009 calender.

Last summer and this one slow but this one more money total.

Central Texas, N. America

Adult and family Close up, strolling , stage corporate

This fall will be the key indicator since there is a melt down economy wise.

PS: Great thread Jay, right to the point and staying somewhat on topic. Will check in regularly as fall approaches. Smile

Are your shows picking up or are you dead in the water?
What part of the world are you from?
What's your market?

Just the basics please so we can all read through them quickly.

So far I'm 5.6% above my goal, overall.
Preschools and elementary schools are both down a bit: Preschools down 8.5%, E.S. down 6.8%
But Fairs/Festivals, Seniors, and Libraries are up: F/F +1.5%, Seniors +5.4%, Libraries +8.4%
All based on $ not #.

I usually pick up a few preschools & seniors in December and a few E. Schools after their schoolyear starts.

Those are my markets in Pennsylvania.

Birthdays and Corporate events

Steady (was very slow last year due to my lack of marketing cause I run 2 companies full time) but things are back to normal but I am having to market 3 times as much to stay booked due to the economy...

And I am in Metro Atlanta with a bunch of great entertainers so it's a hard market

Birthdays, preschools, elementary assemblies, company parties. Los Angeles.

This year was down a bit from last year, which broke my year over year growth of 25% per year for last few years. Also was some real dry spots this summer. So I'm branching out into other markets. Looking forward to the busy season coming up.

Marketing is on overdrive now, July has been a slow month the last couple of years but even with the slowdown in the economy, entertainers will be in big demand as fall approaches.

>>Are your shows picking up or are you dead in the water?

Shows are increasing as I explore new markets and implement new marketing. The summer is always slow for birthdays - people opt for outdoor pool parties, Six Flags, Stone mMountain, etc.

>>What part of the world are you from?

Northeast Georgia to include metro Atlanta and Greenville South Carolina

>>What's your market?

Primarily Birthday Parties, some Day Cares, Elementary Schools, Scout Blue and Gold and church events. Any event that includes the younger children.

SS,

Its slow for adults as well brother. Vacations plus all the other factors. Its also a new era for entertainment. We are having to present a better value to the customer as the tightening of the budget continues through uncertainty.

I'm hoping things pick-up now that schools getting back in I'm defiantly asking a lot of questions before I give the price. I'm also seeing more people who want prototypes built, cheap... but built.

There are some people who are making more money now, then they ever did and the rest who are afraid to spend it.

Businesses that seem to be doing great
Locksmiths go figure but safe sales are up
pool repair they're either fixing them of filling them in
Auto repair people are fixing rather then buying
Used car sales, no more deals because of the number of people wanting used cars
Plumbing if it;s broke you have to fix it
Some health care my doctor dais that insurance companies are squeezing him but others, it's a gold-mine
Pawn shops buying for pennies on the dollar and sitting on stuff

who else?

Only been performing professionally since May 2010.

I do bday parties, Retirement Centers, and Restaurants.

Richmond VA.

The more I market and follow-up, the more I'm booked. I average about 3 shows per month. I spend hardly any time at marketing....I MUST do better.
